Meet Tricia Eaton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Eaton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hi, I’m Tricia. A wife and mom to three young girls who keep us on our toes. I’m the owner of T.H.E. Photography. By the way, if you are wondering what’s in the name, well T.H.E. are my initials!

A few years ago I took a step back from my 10-year career in media and digital advertising to move with my family to Australia. Being so far from family, I found myself constantly taking pictures for my friends and family on the other side of the world to see as we started building our family.

I started documenting my girls’ childhood, and from there, I was hooked!

I love capturing the smiles, laughs, embraces, and emotions that unite a family. The candid moments that are genuine and define a family is my number one goal. In fifty years, I want you to look back at your photos and be transported to that moment in time. Having children has taught me many things, but one of the biggest is just how fast life flies by. I would not let another milestone pass by, so I started clicking away.

Beyond my family and photography, I have a love for ballet. I studied dance for more than 15 years and even started college as a ballet major. It is in my blood, and I fit in a ballet class as often as I can. I am a lover of dogs, ice cream, cheesy chick movies, coffee, chocolate, and running. By far, my favorite season is fall, and wish we got a bit more of it down here in Texas.

Please tell us about your art.
I focus on candid, documentary inspired lifestyle photography. I think that a posed portrait is lovely, and I aim to get some when I work with my clients, but I’d much rather get that sweet kiss on the forehead or a family laugh over a silly joke because those moments are what define relationships. I think those moments are what people will cherish in the years ahead.

Slowing down and appreciating this moment and the people you love is the focus of portraits. There is so much going on in daily life, that I encourage people to schedule their portraits. There is never a perfect time. I chase kids, I’ve dealt with little ones who want nothing to do with the camera. Eventually, I get the moments.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Because there is so much going on, I think people are more trying to find more time for family and being more intentional about capturing moments.  I also look for opportunities to use what I do to benefit others.  For instance I donate services to a nonprofit ballet company, as a way to give back to a group that meant a lot to me growing up and offers great opportunities to kids in the community.
