Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Miranda.
Carly, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My artistic journey began my Freshman year of college in 2017. A photographer reached out to me to set up a photo shoot, and the rest is history. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with dozens of amazing photographers from Houston, as well as from different states. Although those years were important for growth and learning, I believe my real story is just beginning.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do, why, and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I think my art is still undefined. When photographers reach out to me, most of them already have a concept to implement. Taking direction is no problem, but I love proposing new or creative ideas towards the concept, then obviously it’s up to the photographer whether they want to take those ideas into consideration or not. My favorite shoots are the ones I find the inspiration for or the shoots where I can envision what the outcome should look like. When both the model and the photographer understand what is expected or envisioned for the shoot, true art is created. Fashion editorial shoots or anything with fashion sparks a whole new flame in me. As of right now, that’s what I want my work to reflect, and I’m currently working on that transition. Fashion is such an important way to express yourself and is a way to show you stand for something. Whether your stand is to not care how you dress or to revolve the day around your outfit, the point is they believe in something! I get inspired every single day thanks to social media. I come along so many talented people every day; it’s truly amazing to see how creative other people can get! As far as my artwork, I hope people see the effort I put into my shoots. The majority of the time, I’m the one doing my own hair, makeup, and styling so to just see me as a pretty face would be a major let down.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success to me means that 1) I better be damn proud of my own work and 2) people feel inspired by what I’ve created. Over a million people can see a photograph of me, but if I don’t think it’s my best work or no one sees the creativity, effort, or emotion emitted from the photograph I haven’t done my job. Same goes if people only see a picture and don’t feel motivated or inspired to go out and create.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I post the majority of my work on my Instagram profile, @c_rlym. It’s my business and personal account, so you really get the whole Carly experience!
