Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffannie Jones.
Tiffannie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2014, I started The JCS Project: JCS stands for Just College Students. It all started when my little cousin, Taylor Jones, enrolled at Blinn College. I felt like it was my responsibility to provide for her. Having no college experience myself, it fell upon my heart to start providing FREE College Care Packages to her, a few other cousins and co-workers children. What started out as five girls have now expanded to over 3000 students.
Every January, we host a Scholarship Breakfast and award at least 10 students with scholarships and acknowledge them as Ambassadors to represent a variety of Colleges/Universities. www.thejcsproject.org/a-different-world. Our yearly Celebrity Guest is Charnele Brown, a.k.a. Kimberly Reese, the Med student, from the hit NBC Show A Different World.
In July, we host our annual Back2School College Drive. Before students leave Houston, TX they can pick up their FREE College Survival Kit. More information at www.thejcsproject.org/college-dive-2018.
Year round we go on a Campus Tour. Traveling all over Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi giving out 100 FREE Packages at each stop. More information at www.thejcsproject.org/campus-tour.
Being the founder of The JCS Project requires a lot of work, but I make sure there’s a lot of FUN involved! In my spare time, I love to shop! I am a huge fan of the Gabrielle Union Collection at New York and Company. I host and get invited to a lot of events so it’s important that I look my absolute best when representing and speaking on behalf of JCS. I also love how involved my children are with the organization. Once a year, we go on family road trips and they attend college campuses with me and help pass out packages as well! What more can you ask for!!!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being the founder of a Non-profit Organization is not easy. Especially when your business needs sponsors and donations to survive. While it is not easy and honestly, I pay for 99% of everything we do, I know that with continued hard work, we will get in front of the right donors.
Even without the funds, we need I have learned to keep going. Not having money has not to stop JCS from doing anything we want to do! We might have to start/do it on a smaller schedule but we pride ourselves on reaching as many students as we can!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
The Jcs Project is known for our Back2School College Drive. We are the only organization in Houston hosting one. When you hear Back2School Drive, you immediately think small children. But college students need school supplies too. Not only that but snacks, personal items and words of encouragement.
We have been able to host this drive three years in a row. Providing 200-500 students with free College Care Packages.
We are currently gearing up for the next on this coming summer.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very creative! But I had no idea I would create something like this. Especially, since I myself have never attended college!
