Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Herse.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My passion for fitness started as a child, growing up in the world of dance and gymnastics. However, it wasn’t until I discovered Crossfit and strength training as an adult that I noticed the powerful effect that weight training had on my body and mind. In 2017, I made the decision to walk away from my corporate career as a management consultant to pursue the thing I love the most: fitness.
As both an athlete and a coach, I am in constant pursuit of the most effective and methods for achieving performance and aesthetic goals. I fulfill my passion for mentoring and teaching others by coaching multiple disciplines around strength and conditioning in the Houston area. You can take a class from me at Row Studios, EaDo Fitness, or Allsport Crossfit. I also do some personal training and programming.
As a competitor, I train daily. I have experience competing in Crossfit, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, and am currently training for my first bodybuilding competition. I am constantly learning from my pursuits and applying that knowledge to my clients.
I am a level 2 certified Crossfit coach and hold an MBA from Cornell University.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was very difficult to walk away from my business career to pursue fitness. I had worked so hard to get my MBA and my job in consulting and I was afraid that I was throwing away all that hard work. I was also deeply concerned about others judging me for my choices.
When I finally made the leap to working in fitness, it was a huge load off my shoulders. I finally felt passionate about my job (for the first time ever) and it made all aspects of my life more enjoyable.
There really is no “right” time to make a career change, and it’s normal to feel doubt during that process. However, if you work hard and have passion, things will always fall into place.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am known primarily as a Crossfit coach, but I really like to blend multiple disciplines of fitness with my clients (as I do in my own training). I am a big fan of weight training (especially for women) and I like to blend compound “functional” movements with isolation movements to achieve a body that’s strong, powerful, and aesthetically pleasing.
I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach with fitness and will always work with clients to find styles that they enjoy and will get them the results they are seeking.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
