Thanks for sharing your story with us Shante. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
“I don’t consider myself to be a fashionista, but I do love fashion. I get excited when I’m dressed up in heels, but I am just as excited when I have on a cute t-shirt, strappy sandals or pumps.”
With a background in senior living sales management and a passion for fashion, I started DOSS COUTURE almost a year ago. I began designing t-shirts as a hobby. As a fashion-forward professional woman, I couldn’t find the look that was appropriate for business casual meetings with clients and a happy hour with sister-friends in retail stores so I decided to design my own t-shirts. DOSS Tees are designed with the everyday woman in mind that reflects her strength, power, and endurance.
My colorful line of t-shirts is designed to inspire and empower ALL women- inclusive of any race, religion, and culture.
Best of all, this journey has afforded me the opportunity to work with and design t-shirts for Shark Tank Winner and Me and the Bees owner and CEO, Mikaila Ulmer as well as design a signature t-shirt for The Women’s Fund Houston annual fundraiser.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worth having is ever easy. My primary struggle along the way has been the ability to keep up with large retailers who are able to produce high quantities at a lower price. In addition, maintaining a quality tee product and continuing to inspiration and set Doss apart from the competitors. This requires me to not only have a consistent presence on social media but keep up with current events and work a 9-5 full time job.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Doss Couture – what should we know?
First, people ask what does DOSS mean. The namesake is my paternal grandfather Crawford ‘Doss’ Robertson. The majority of his grandchildren were girls and some of my fondest memories were how he always encouraged his granddaughters to be the VERY best we could be. His smile and his encouraging words inspired and empowered me.

These are exciting times for Doss Couture. We have found a quality tee that women like and feel good wearing. With phrases like ‘Boardroom Boss’, ‘Fierce’, ‘Rare: Not common. Hard to find’ the t-shirt designs are fashion-forward, colorful and powerful.
And who doesn’t want a tee with a powerful phrase?

My family and friends have been super supportive- my boys continue to help produce and package tees as well as my husband and his creative mind.
