Today we’d like to introduce you to Yojira.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I make beats and rap under an alias based off of a bad Godzilla joke.
I’m Yoji, and it’s nice to meet you.
Please tell us about your art.
I mean… I make hip hop, but I make everything.
Hip hop is the focus right now though.
I’m primarily inspired by all the music I don’t like.
it’s sort of how I got into all of this.
My brother and I agreed that the world of hip hop is over-saturated with monotony.
I figured I try my hand at it and make a few tracks for fun.
Before I knew it, I was being told it might be a good idea to pursue music as a career option…
As far as a message goes,
To put it into words would defeat the purpose of the message…
If I’m being real with you.
The only thing I really care that anyone takes from my music is that whatever they took from it, I hope they thought for themselves to get there.
What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
In some ways, it’s better, and in some ways, it’s worse.
It’s better in the sense that creating has become so accessible that literally, anyone can do it.
It’s harder because if an artist wants to get paid for their art, they’re competing with that infinite access of ideas.
If the city wants art and artists to thrive in the community
They should hire artists and pay for art from artists in the community.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can Google me. I’m Google-able.
