Check out John Duro’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Duro.

John, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born on July 4th, 1993. I live and work and Houston. My first exhibition was at Texas Contemporary with Pablo Cardoza Gallery last October.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My work is mostly history paintings and abstract expressionism from my African American millennial perspective. It’s all a part of Poor John’s Almanac, and people can take whatever they want from it.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
The market is over saturated which can be difficult, but it gives me more reason to find new ways to make my work stand alone. The internet is a great tool to enable that as well, which is definitely an advantage for artists working today. This city could break down that wall between regular commission work and the artists more so the market matches the rising number of artists because the demand for art in public spaces has been there and is only growing. This city’s fine art scene has expanded vastly over only the past few years and doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be viewed at Pablo Cardoza Gallery in Downtown. Wearable pieces are available through my webstore or by email.
