Conversations with the Inspiring Tina Bass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Bass.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved planning and decorating. When I was younger I would organize and plan our family functions and parties. I met a reputable wedding planner here in Houston and she asked me to help her by being a “day of” coordinator for one of her weddings. She had a few events on that day and needed the extra hands. I was elated and thought it was a great opportunity!!! I would’ve done it for free but being the professional that she was, she actually paid me. I thought, this gets better and better lol!! After that day, I was bitten by the wedding planning bug! I then planned a couple of weddings in my family and my first professional 300 guest wedding that was truly a challenge but it was planned and executed to the bride’s expectations and I was thoroughly pleased with the end result. Since that time I’ve planned events here and there over the years while continuing to work and take care of son and daughter. Fast forward to 2017 and hurricane Harvey! We were out of our home for two months while we got it repaired from the flood damage and I was also off of work. Once we were back in our re-decorated home, I was sitting in the office at the computer thinking about if I was ready to go back to work or not. At that point God spoke to me and said, do what you’ve always loved doing. I asked, is it too late and His answer was, it’s never too late. I spoke with my husband, not for permission but for affirmation and he was supportive of the plan. He went with me to obtain my DBA and here we are today! That’s how Rose & Rae Events came about! I’ve been doing this for many, many years but now, it is my business and to make it work I pray, I plan and stay up late at night sometimes. But to me it’s worth it!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anything worth having is without bumps and bruises. Event planning can be exactly that, bumps and bruises lol! Back in the day it was definitely harder because people would take to task and plan their own events. But now in the age of social media we see everything that people do almost instantly, if not “Live”. We all want everything fabulously done just like the images we see. People are more prone to paying someone that know the ends and outs of the business. But even if you have all the knowledge in the world about event planning, you will still have hiccups at times that you can’t afford to have them. The key is to resolve it then and there but talk about it at a later date. The client has entrusted you with something that is dear to them and we aim never to let them down.

What should we know about Rose & Rae Event Planning? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I don’t consider it as competition. I pray that we all get our just desserts! Houston is a big city and I can’t service every person that lives here. In other words, we can But we are a full-service events planning company. We will assist you in planning your event from A to Z. We plan baby showers, children’s parties, adult parties; etc. But as the creative, I absolutely love planning weddings and our signature “Dinner by Design” events.

I named this company for two of my favorite little people in this world. My granddaughters Kaelyn Rose (7) and Adalyn Rae (3). I pray that we expand and a business that they can inherit one day.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Sure, my favorite Podcast is “I Choose You” operated by Marcus and Kimmy Jones. Which is a relationship/marriage podcast. Because everything to me starts with God first and then my marriage. If I have those two for me, then I can do anything!!! My small business developer We Ink Deals operated by Amora Linscomb has been a tremendous help to R&R Events in regards to PR and business “political correctness” lol. There are so many blogs, vlogs and just social media overall that has been instrumental in our growth and knowledge overall.

I’m also thankful for my family and friends for all of the positivity that they speak over us. My closet friend Toshia was so encouraging when I first told her of my plan. So I appreciate that very much. I can’t forget my former lead asst. Ms. Kim R. and my right hand women my sister Tammy. She works with me on event days and she never fails and is always up for the challenge. I can’t do it alone so I think I’ve gathered a supportive team thus far starting with God, my husband, my children and the love of friends and family. We greatly appreciate every client that has entrusted us with such precious moments. We appreciate you all!!!
