Meet Rhonda Adams of The Event DOC in Southwest Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Adams.

Rhonda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a visionary. I’m from Beaumont, Texas which lacked constructive activities for youth. so my friends and I would choreograph dance routines, and develop our own plays.

I would build my own Barbie dream houses from old shoe boxes and sew clothes for my dolls by hand. I mastered the art of “re-purposing” items (mostly due to necessity) many years before it became trendy. This has helped me to be able to think outside of the box. I owe my creative side to my Mother who earned money as a seamstress specializing in women’s formal, and semi-formal wear. Fate would later bring me to working in management at a Bridal and Tuxedo store where customers picked my brain on a regular basis for wedding planning ideas, and ways in which to organize the wedding planning process. I had been providing this information for many years before I realized that people get paid to do this!

Has it been a smooth road?
The response has been great, and I have been blessed. The most challenging thing for me is being a small company and not having the manpower to pursue some of my ideas, dreams, and aspirations for my company. But I will keep working hard, this too shall pass.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I started my company three years ago as a Day Of Coordinator. We specialize in wedding and event coordination where our services include a review of venue and vendor contracts, rehearsal, ceremony, and reception management, vendor confirmations, and so much more. We basically handle the behind the scene details so that the couple can enjoy the experience.

When I first started working in the wedding planning business, I honestly thought it was all about the creation of beautiful design and the challenge of finding vendors within the client’s budget. Over time, I realized that although those things are important, the most valuable thing I can do for a client is to make the day of the wedding process fun, exciting, memorable, and most of all STRESS-FREE!

I’ve been blessed to collaborate with various companies and have branched out to other types of events. Most recently, I’ve teamed up with an independent production company, Jala World productions as the production coordinator for the stage play, Forever Yours, and pre-production for the short film Definition of Manhood.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is such a large city which has room for everyone to grow and accomplish their goals. It’s the perfect city for creatives to flourish. There’s definitely a movement happening here, a certain energy; if you will. The camaraderie among Houston’s small business owners is unmatched. I Love to help others and Houston’s entrepreneurial community seems to embody the Less Brown quote, “help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours”. The energy here is awesome!
