Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Baird.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our group is an all-volunteer group that has been advocating for human rights since the 1980s.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, primarily because a lack of resources (specifically funds and personnel) there is a limit that we can do. When I started as group leader in 2012 I was hoping that we could open an office in Houston with a few retained staff members and more effectively advocate for human rights but the funding is not there.
Please tell us about Amnesty International Group 23 Houston.
We advocate for human rights in coordination with our Amnesty International USA national office in Washington D.C. For a more detailed look at what we do please access our website at www.amnestyhouston.org and you will find a list of events and advocacy opportunities that we are working on.
