Today we’d like to introduce you to Tory Perrard.
Tory, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a 15-year-old aspiring model and amateur makeup artist in the Houston area. I am no more special than anyone else I’ve just been blessed in being allowed to do what I love for the last year. We all have circumstances and illnesses that are unique to us all as individuals, but I won’t allow mine to deter me or slow me down from reaching my goals. Therefore I don’t allow them to define me.
I’ve been modeling for nearly a year and a half, and in that time I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most creative people in the area. There have been so many photographers, directors and other models that have inspired me, encouraged me and help build me along the way. I feel like a sponge in which I’m trying to soak up all they have to teach me. I have to say, to be able to do what you truly love and even getting paid to do it, has really been an amazing experience and I hope I only grow to be able to do bigger and better things.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love modeling and makeup because it is an expression of myself. I absolutely enjoy working with different photographers to be able to explore alternate ideas and thoughts and ultimately fulfill our visions and create art.
Quite honestly before I began doing this, I never really realized how much of photography is in fact art. I’m amazed every day and completely awestruck at the moments that are captured and tweaked to perfection.
Yes, many times I do what I do because of the profit, but I also do a lot because of the chance to work with and meet so many inspiring creatives here in Houston, Dallas, Waco and I look forward to meeting many more.
I also do it because I want to make sure that I can never look back and wonder ‘What if.’ I also hope that I am an inspiration to other girls my age, but it doesn’t matter their shape or size that we should all encourage and support each other. I’ve met so many models in and around town that are genuinely phenomenal people who support and promote each other. This isn’t always what I’ve experienced In my past, but this is the way it should be. I hope that I am someone that will be known for my encouragement, my support and being easy to work with.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think conditions for those in our industry in Houston are doing quite well. It’s all about networking with other models, photographers, and makeup artists. I love the amount of creative meetups that are in and around town. Going to these helps us learn so much from our peers.
However, for models in the area, there are several opportunities for paid shoots. Some are more ideal than others, but so far I’ve been fortunate in what I’ve been blessed to be a part of.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Most everything I have I post on Instagram @Tory.Nichole. Other things I’ve done have included a few catalog shoots for online clothing companies.
