Meet Trailblazer Jeanna Hawkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanna Hawkins.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey to the Marketing and Business Consulting profession began in high school. I am a graduate of Westbury High School, Class of 1989. While in high school, I enjoyed art so advancing in that course led to my exploring photography as well. I attended a summer program during my senior year at the Art Institute of Houston, which focused on Commercial Advertising. I learned some general practices and fell in love with it. I decided upon graduation, I would major in Commercial Photography at Texas Southern University.

Life progressed and I was sidetracked from the advertising industry and instead received a degree in Accounting. Along this path, I assisted family and friends with orchestrating their business plans, business structure, and development, while working in Corporate America for the telecommunications industry. It was the usual story, as a mother of two, at the time, my focus was on maintaining employment to ensure a good living for my family.

It wasn’t until 2009 that I decided I needed to look into something more fulfilling and I became a Business Consultant. Of course, over the years, family and friends encouraged me to take this path and devote myself to business consulting and development full time. I slowly began to migrate closer to the idea after becoming a partner in a personal training business, Body By U Fit, LLC. I perform the majority of the operational functions of the business and loved every minute of every challenge. During the process, I learned to build websites, honed in on my talent as a graphic designer, and systems integration specialist.

I have always had a passion for learning and being primarily self-taught I thought it a good idea to receive a formal education as well, so I decided to go back to school, at University of Houston’s Bauer School of Business and study Entrepreneurship. During this time I was lucky enough to meet an extraordinary woman, Rendean Garrett, who introduced me to the radio world, where I was a weekly guest on the online radio station, All Real Radio on the Ren Rising Talk Show with my segment called “Business at Its Best.” There, I provided business advice to entrepreneurs and guidance to building in their business as well as assisted her with re-structuring her monthly business networking event, 1st Thursday Business Social.

A Perfect Type, LLC is now what I hoped it would be and growing. I love building the business and allowing others to see their dreams come to fruition. It’s important to acquire assistance from a consultant who can see your vision for what it truly is and not for what they want it to be because the business then shows your inner qualities.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I allowed vision others had for me to get in the way of what I saw of myself at an early age. I was brought full circle to what I was always passionate about. I am thankful every day for that.

I would advise other women in business to not allow yourself to boxed in by the expectations others have of you. It is ultimately you that has to live this life and only you can judge if you have found peace.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about A Perfect Type, LLC – what should we know?
I specialize in business development. I offer services that will assist any industry, such as administrative support, print marketing, and graphic design, systems and document integration, website development, social media marketing, remote accounting and as an advisor in these areas.

What sets me apart from most is that I understand the value in proprietary ownership and in my development and creation my clients are also taught on how to maintain or make changes if they desire, so their business will never be crippled by what I may have knowledge of or what I have access to.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Be as transparent as possible. Building and maintaining the trust of your clientele is crucial, as well as acting and performing your work with integrity.
