Meet Brandon Goss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Goss, From college football player to a full-time creative content producer.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
You could say that my full-time creative journey started August 20, 2016, at 3;30 p.m., I know it may sound weird that I know exactly the time and date it started, but it’s for good reason. I was coming back home from an out of town trip, and a car decided to jet across the intersection at the last minute. I couldn’t avoid the car and had no choice but to hit it. Both cars were totaled but everybody made it out ok, and I walked away unharmed and unscratched…just a totaled car. Then for the next few months I had to ride with my dad to work, and every morning he listens to the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.” This particular morning he had Hollywood Director David E. Talbert on the show talking about his then-new movie “Almost Christmas.” As the interview went on, David also mentioned that he would be having an acting workshop in Dallas that upcoming weekend, and you would also get a chance to audition for him. So I pulled his website up on my laptop in the car and started reading about the details of the workshop he was talking about. I started to think to myself that this is something that I want to do and need to attend. My dad dropped me off at work, and all day I had the website pulled up on my laptop and would read it over and over, think about it, pray about it all day while I was at work. The more I did that, the more I felt like this was an opportunity God was presenting to me to take advantage of. So I came up with the plan to ask my parents to borrow their car and make this turn around trip on a Sunday to go. I knew I would probably be tired at work Monday morning, but I felt in my heart that it was worth sacrificing sleep in order to seize the opportunity to move closer to achieving my goal of being an actor in Hollywood. With attending that workshop, I got a lot of great information, got a chance to audition for David and received a callback, and as an added bonus got a chance to attend his L.A. premiere for “Almost Christmas.” Since then its been a steady incline of creative opportunities that have came my way from being in short films, music videos, being an on-air personality for a local tv network, being a sports talk show host for Urban Houston Network, having a six month stint as a radio personality at Synergy Radio Network, signing with a agency for representation as a actor, co-starring in the stage play “Convicted”, producing my own creative content, and as well as other auditions and castings.

Please tell us about your art.
I think the best way to describe me is a “creative swiss army knife.” Like a swiss army knife, it comes with so many cool things you can use and just when you think there’s nothing else it can do or offer… BOOM … it does something else cool. Well, that’s me! I want to have my hand in as many creative things as possible not to just to be doing them for the sake of it but I know can do it, be great at it and I also have a love for it all. On the film side of things I’m an actor, screenwriter, director, and producer. I can write the script, act in the scene, direct the scene, and also shoot and edit the production. I produce my own short films as well as collaborating with other filmmakers and production studios in the Houston area such as Rennob Showtime, Shot By Sir Pat Studios, and Drake Studios (We got some heat coming!). I also model and currently building my print modeling portfolio with Danielle Tillman, who is the creator of the creative conceptual project “The Abstract People.” I’m looking to hopefully sign a modeling contract in the near future. On the creative content side, I produce my own content that I air on my Youtube channel – Goss Speaks and my Instagram – @brand.goss. I have a group discussion show called “We Just Kick’n It” which is a live panel discussion show that is centered around the topic of conversations that the 18-35 age range has amongst themselves. We bring it to an open forum where we can educate, inform, and entertain one another, as well as creating a safe space to talk about any and everything. It is geared more specifically to the college crowd as we go on tour and have live shows in front of the student body to have these open forum discussions. We did our first live show at Huston – Tillotson University April 2018 for their spring fest; we look to expand to more schools fall 2019. I also have a series entitled “The Creative Process” which takes you behind the scenes of seeing how creators create and letting the viewer develop a better appreciation for the creator and what they’ve created. The most recent artist featured is my friend who’s like family to me, Voyage feature alumni, Trae Perry. I started a cooking show called ‘What are you putting in your body?”, Which promotes healthy and cleaner eating. We go step by step preparing the food to completion while giving the health benefits of the dish. I’m also developing a huge, never seen before creative project that’s going to change the entertainment scene of Houston later this fall, hopefully, I can come back and give Voyage the exclusive on what it is.

My message to anyone who sees my work and follows what I do is to not think to yourself “think outside the box,” but rather think “what box?”. Be so creative in your thinking that you don’t even have a box to confine your creative thinking in the first place! Also, allow things, people, experiences, life to inspire you. Don’t be afraid to try something new because no one else is doing it or think its “cool,” if think its a cool concept.. don’t hesitate, DO IT! The world may be waiting for you to do it, and we need your creative gift expressed to the world. Lastly, the viewer should know about my artwork is that it is always going to be authentic, evolving creatively, conceptually different, and its always going to be a positive vibe.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
You have to develop those effective communication skills in order to get yourself and what you do out there to the masses. I know everyone, especially artists may not be the bubbly personalities but you have to develop some kind of routine you can say to make you comfortable enough promoting yourself because everywhere you go, you are your own brand. People are not going to believe in you and your brand if you don’t believe in it. Invest in tools such as business cards, come up with an elevator pitch because sometimes you may only have 5 minutes or less to explain a whole project. You have to be able to deliver and get the listener to buy into your idea without having enough time to explain it. So put yourself out there, remember this is all to build your brand and create exposure for yourself, plus besides… the worst thing someone can say is “No” .. right?

Another important thing is collaboration. This is what grows the creative community and also helps you expand your network. Often times, people can be selfish or stingy with sharing their resources and knowledge in fear of someone else rising to the top before them, but there’s room for everyone at the top. Be that person who pulls people up and not keeps people down and remember; you don’t have to dim someone else’s light for yours to shine.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work on my Youtube channel, all you have to do is type in Goss Speaks in the search bar on youtube, and it will pop up. My content is also on my Instagram profile and my IGTV, which is @brand.goss. Website coming soon! For those who follow what I do the best way you can support is just watch the content and tell as many people as you can about it!
