Today we’d like to introduce you to Marland Johnson Jr..
Marland, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Before photography, I modeled for 2+ years. Eventually, I wanted to move from the canvas to becoming the artist. I bought my first camera three years ago and been moving forward ever since then.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My main focus is portrait style photography. I enjoy displaying the beauty of women through creative ideas and concepts. The artwork is to create a sense of confidence for the audience. Everyone has their highlights and faults, which makes them gorgeous.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Firstly, to any photographer out there that is having financial concerns, I would recommend starting off small. Buy simple or standard grade equipment as a stepping stone. Let your funds build from gigs and photo shoots that may allow you to upgrade tech. Secondly, don’t get discouraged when you see other photographer’s amazing work. Ask questions, practice, and learn to master YOUR craft. Not all artist have the same eye.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Most of my work is displayed on my social media (@iwantjune), which includes Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I am currently in the process of building a website for my images. Until then, I tend to inform my followers to like, comment, and share my work with their fan base as well. Word of mouth is the next best thing behind the internet.
