Today we’d like to introduce you to LeDarion Carter.
LeDarion, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My journey into photography was an unlikely one. I was a recent graduate in mechanical engineering from Tuskegee University awaiting a job opportunity when I stumbled upon a camera owned by a friend. I quickly took interest simply because I saw it as a creative outlet.
At that time, I lived in Alabama and drove a 2015 ford mustang, which became the benchmark for a lot of my early work. I would drive along vast stretches of rural roads stopping every few minutes to get “the shot.” As my craft began to evolve, I sought out more creative interest. One prominent moment was randomly arranging a photo shoot at the local fire station with friends with mustangs to capture what I called the “Mustangs and Fire trucks” shoot; simply because I imagined the firetruck lights being a good bases for a photoshoot lol. This random but creative nature became embedded in my composition style.
Shortly after I moved back to Houston, where my search for a career in engineering continued, but what I didn’t realize is that this is where my photography career would take off. I began what I called floating; I would go where my interest led me while keeping the camera with me and capturing as I went. This “floater like personality” allowed me the opportunity to be in places where my craft was able to be used. It allowed me the opportunity to share peoples craft through a single moment in time; it allowed me to meet people that influenced my entrance into different industries and areas of photography. “Photography grew from an idea that if you can focus the lens on a single moment, that unique moment can manifest into an abundance of untamed art.”
Today, my unlikely start into photography has grown quite a bit since then, I’ve now been capturing full time for a little over 3 years under my brand lcarterphotography where I focus on more creative and expressive projects like portraits, dance, expression, models, fashion, lifestyle etc., Contractor Media Group where we capture commercial photography and build websites for business in real estate, automotive, construction, medical, manufacturing, restaurants, landscape, health & beauty, startups and unique areas of business and Tasteful WallArt where I capture classic, and unique automobiles and create a mix media of original imagery with digital art overlays.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a Houston based photographer, Website designer, and automotive art designer. I capture creative and expressive projects through lcarterphotography and commercial projects through Contractor Media Group. CMG was founded on the premise that if we can highlight the works and skill set of industry professionals, it has the potential to increase the value of the works created. When I began capturing construction workers, welders, and craftsman, I realize that many don’t realize what these craftsmen do behind the scenes to create the structures we utilize. I founded Contractor Media Group as a way to capture in a way that not only focuses on the project but the people building the project. What I’ve learned is that they enjoy seeing detailed shots of their work, and have a lot of pride and integrity in what they do. I often feel humbled to be chosen to share their works.
When I’m not capturing either of these styles of photography, I’m often capturing supercars, classic cars, or unique vehicles as the bases for my art. I call it Tasteful WallArt. It’s my interpretation of the beauty of automobiles and my creative offering for those who appreciate Tasteful Automotive WallArt, while providing value to the automobile community.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I honestly believe we are in one of the best times of being a creative. We have access to affordable items that allow us to create with an even bigger access to platforms that allow us to express our talents. I believe as we move further into the future more artists will take a leap into truly living through their creative avenue’s vs. living without fulfillment. I believe the largest challenge is defining a market where our creative niche can truly be unleashed and appreciated while complimenting and inspiring the next generation of creatives.
