Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Cruz.
Daniela, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Well, my love for photography started many years ago when I was in middle school. I always carried a camera with me and remember always wanting to capture everything.
I stopped when I got to high school because I had so much going on and I also couldn’t bring myself to ask my parents to buy me a new camera. I hated asking for things, especially when I knew they couldn’t afford it.
Fast forward about five years later! My son was 2, and My iPhone was at max capacity on space. I would take so many photos of my son, posing him and gathering props, etc. My husband knew I had a love for photography because we started dating in middle school! He surprised me with a camera on my 24th birthday, and it took off in a blink of an eye. I would post photos of my son on Facebook and Instagram, and shortly, friends started asking me to take photos for them. This is when Pixie Cruz Photography was born.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I try to capture feeling. When I book a session, I try to gather what exactly this person is about, are they wild, free, reserved, loving, etc. I take everything into consideration and apply that to my post-production. I want people to feel beautiful; I want them to remember how they felt at this moment in time. I also want other people to feel the emotion that was being felt when I took these images. I want everyone to know that every session will be different, but just as beautiful as every other image.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
My advice would be to really try to be unique. There is a big difference between copying and being influenced by another artist. Give credit to where it’s deserved. One major thing for me that I wished I learned sooner would be to stop looking at those numbers on FB and IG. That is one of the things that makes or breaks so many artists. They get so discouraged by the number of likes or followers they have, and that number does not define your art!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Everyone can see my work on Facebook and Instagram. I really appreciate people taking the time to stop by my page and showing love!
