Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Gomez.
Marlene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My sister had seen some Paper Flowers on Etsy, she wanted some for her daughter’s bedroom. She asked me to make some, I was starting to do a little research when I noticed a picture on Facebook, it was a backdrop with paper flowers, as curious as I was I asked my Friend Cindy, she had made the flowers, she explained to me exactly how they’re made, and what materials to use.
I made my first flower, then my second, then my third… I shared pictures on Facebook & my Friend Lorena asked me to make some for her. That led to friends asking for these beautiful paper flowers, within a few months I had two weddings Booked.
A lady who owned a small store in Old Town Spring Contacted Me, a week later my Flowers were being sold at her store. All I ever wanted was to share my flowers with everyone, I did several outdoors tent sales, I met many people, & vendors along the way, whom I learned so much from. I am where I am because people requested things from me, things I didn’t know how to do, but I learned it because I didn’t want to disappoint my clients. This September 2019 will be a year since my first kids backdrop Rental. And my June & July are Double Booked with Events. All I wanted was to sell my paper flowers, but people kept asking for more, so Here I am, making Backdrops with Balloons Garlands, Decorating Desserts Table, Meeting Wonderful people, making new friends, Building relationship, Building my Small Business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the majority of this journey it’s been a blessing, the minor struggles I’ve had is Having to figure out the Events industry on my own, Using my profit to purchase more supplies, using my profit to purchase nice decorative pieces I can use to make my next’s clients event a dream come true.
Glam Paper Flowers – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in decorating Backdrops & Desserts Tables for Weddings, Baby Showers, Graduations, Birthdays, School Events. Etc. I’m known for being very kind, friendly & professional, I’m so proud of the work I do, sometimes I’m up at 5am or up till 12 midnight, to complete the job. What sets me apart from others, is my social media skills, my pictures, presentation is everything. & my constant interaction with my followers.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The Fact that I’m booked months ahead makes me proud. Because people can appreciate my work, they love it & they trust me. That makes me proud.
