Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Lazo.
Karla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
First, I have to say that Infinite Spring is a dream come true for me. I have always had a passion for flowers, and working with such beauty on a day to day basis seems to me everything but “work.”
Flowers are to me, even the most modest of them, one of the most thoughtful, beautiful, sweet, and luxurious gifts you can give someone, or yourself. Since I was young, I always did my best to have fresh flowers in my home. My motto was, and still is “there will always be fresh flowers in my home, even if I have to eat ramen noodles to afford them” and that is the honest truth!
The idea of owning my own flower shop is something that started when I was in my mid-twenties, but never turned into more than just a fun idea. I wanted to make lots of money, so I could afford the life style of the many wealthy people I waited on while working at fine dining restaurants. Only a career in the corporate world could get me that kind of money, I thought. So I spent years and lots of money on tuition working towards an International Business degree. I moved to different states, twice, before deciding to come home to Houston. I struggled trying to figure out if I was making the right choices. Little did I know, my happiness had always been there, right in front of me, in a vase. And then, one day, one small act of kindness turned into the moment that would change path, and my life.
In August of 2014, a sweet friend couple decided to get married, and as a present to the bride, I offered her flowers for her bridal brunch. I had never made flower arrangements for anyone else but me, but I knew it was a small little get together so I didn’t feel any pressure to deliver something out of this world, but Instead just something I hoped would make her little heart smile. So I shopped for flowers, arranged them, and was so excited to bring them to her. What I thought was just a fun gesture, got an unexpected reaction from all the other girls at brunch, including her photographer who would later become the second bride to wear my flowers. My first bride turned out to be that sweet friend who allowed me to not only bring flowers for her bridal shower, but invited me to make her wedding floral arrangements.
After that, friends begin to encourage me to make this something more than just a hobby. Recognizing that I might possibly have a little talent handling flowers, and loving it so much, I jumped to it and within a week, I had Infinite Spring legitimately registered, and I was a small business owner!! yikes….
Today, two and a half years later, I am proud to say that I have done more than I ever expected. I do all my advertising on social media, and through recommendations, at least until now. I still work at a great fine dining restaurant where I proudly display my work from time to time on some of their special events. I feel very fortunate to have had so many people be so supportive and having such confidence in my work from the very beginning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a very exciting, fun, and sometimes overwhelming road so far. I think my biggest obstacle is that there are only 24 hours in a day! I am pretty much a one woman show, and I am very meticulous when it comes to arranging flowers. It’s not uncommon for me to work all day, and until early hours of the next to get my work done. Therefore, lack of sleep is sometimes something I budget for when I have events coming up. Other than consuming accounting chores and learning how to run a small business, I have no complaints, and feel extremely fortunate and happy with every opportunity I’ve been given so far.
You hear the saying “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life,” all the time. As cliché as it might sound, it can actually happen. IT HAPPENED TO ME!! and I can’t believe I’m actually doing something I truly love. I am a very, very lucky girl.
Infinite Spring Floral Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Infinite Spring is a small floral design business, and a one woman show. I manage all inquiries, appointments, accounting, I choose the flowers, make and deliver every single floral arrangement myself. I have wonderful helpers when I need to set up a larger event, but other than that, you get just me. Do not let that fool you, this one woman show has produced some impressive work.
I have a beautiful website where you can feast your eyes on my work. However, everything I make is made to order. What I mean by that is, you cannot go on my site and just pick a genetic arrangement and pay for it. You must order directly from me. I can imagine some people are turned off by the inconvenience of not being able to do that, but I specialize on unique, more personalized arrangements which allows me to work on my client’s budgets and to give them a much better product than something they can get from a website at the click of a mouse. My prices are very competitive, and I do work with small budgets.
I offer flower arrangements for every type of occasion. I decorate baby showers to welcome new family additions, embellish brides, birthday parties, corporate events, and even adorn caskets of those parting from us.
I do not own a store front, for now. Instead, I have a workshop in my own home. This allows me to work in a great environment, to spend more time making flowers people really love, and to keep the price very competitive.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I don’t have one proud moment in my career, I have many!! Every time someone takes pictures of my arrangements, or when they post pictures of my flowers on social media, it makes me very proud. When someone calls me because they saw my flowers somewhere, or a previous client refers me, that’s always a proud moment. However, finishing a large wedding, and seeing people appreciate the beauty, and the work, it’s incredibly rewarding!!

Infinite Spring really is the best in Houston. I have hired Karla for many events and have never been disappointed. Her work is truly special.
