Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hi! My name is Victoria Johnson and I am a 37 year old wife and mother of 2 girls. I am originally from a town called Independence, located in Southeast Louisiana but have resided in the Livingston, Texas area for 12 years. My husband and daughters are members of the Alabama-Coushatta tribe and that is where you can find me with my camera most of the time. My love for Photography began when I was nine years old. I always loved taking photos as a young child and up into adulthood. I finally decided when I reached my 30’s, to go to school for Photography and pursue a career in it. I worked very hard to keep my business going and when there were bumps in the road, I did not give up. I just kept going and didn’t stop. It has been an amazing journey so far!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would have to say it was a little of both. I think the biggest challenge for me in the beginning was getting my work out to the general public to where people could easily find my business. A lot of promotion through Social Media has been a great help also.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The name of my business is Skye Breese Photography. Skye is the middle name of my oldest daughter Aaliyah and Breese is the middle name of my youngest daughter Stormi. I specialize in Families, Children, Newborns and Seniors. I also specialize in Events. I am known for my Powwow Photography. I have had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful beadwork and dance clothes at Native American powwows throughout the south. My daughters both dance so we travel to powwows several times a year. I have been a monthly contributor to Native Hoop Magazine for three years. It is a Native (Indigenous) publication based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. My photos of Native American culture and events are published monthly in their magazine. I am most proud of the continued work that I put into my business and for not giving up on it. I think what sets me apart from others is my willingness to go beyond for my clients. I want to give everyone an opportunity to have their photos done.
What were you like growing up?
I was a bit of shy kid growing up. I loved being outside, riding bikes, writing stories and of course taking pictures.
