Meet Edwin Feuge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Feuge.

Edwin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Houston Texas and had a pretty standard early life. I was always interested in the arts which ultimately led me to apply and soon after attend the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a visual artist. There I was constantly surrounded by creative people, which helped to shape my own creative vision. Towards the end of my time in high school, I grew increasingly interested in fashion design and style. After graduation, I worked for local artist Tim Glover over the summer and have since worked random jobs to make money to fund my artistic endeavors and my love of clothing. I have shown artwork at the Glassell School, HSPVA, and the Contemporary Art Museum Houston and have participated in the CAMH Teen Council Fashion show twice. Aside from the arts, I got into skating around a year ago and have been addicted ever since. I like to devote my free time to my continued pursuance of creative endeavors be it in the arts, in skateboarding, or in styling.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say that I have always faced moderate challenges. Growing up my family never had a ton of money but there was never a time when my parents didn’t provide for my two brothers and I. Going to school I never totally fit in and I think that motivated my artistic practice, as well as my ever more eccentric choice in shoes and clothing. In modern day the challenge is making enough money to keep up with the things I love to do and have, but I’ve learned that if you really care about something, you make the time, space, money and anything else it takes to make it work. Whether it’s working to afford the newest sneakers or finding a couple of hours a week to devote to skating, or taking time to create new artwork, I find life is best when I put effort towards the things I love.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I currently work in an art museum part time and occasionally sell clothing to make a little money, and in my free time I like to skate, work on producing art, plan outfits, and grow my Instagram. I am proud to say that I make all of my own money and all that I have and have accomplished has been honest and of its own merit, free of nepotism and outside influence.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I like to think that there is no wrong path. Every day is a lesson in itself and I try to learn the most that I can from all of my experiences. I feel like since I’m still young I haven’t gone too far astray and my story is still being written. I think that if given the chance to start over again I wouldn’t take it. I am doing well enough for myself right now and I am moving at a pace that works for me. I have people that I care about and that care about me, and just about every pair of crazy sneakers I’ve made a mission out of acquiring.
