Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel King.
Emmanuel King, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I picked up a camera and started shooting videos and pictures for fun at first. It wasn’t until I got to UT Austin and began shooting short films for people and just because. People really liked the videos I posted so I keep watching YouTube videos to teach myself new tricks.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing ever has a smooth road. Especially if you’re trying to introduce the world to your work. Sometimes people will mess with it; sometimes they won’t. There were days I felt like my video deserved more attention. That’s probably what I’ve struggled with. And also not having access to as much vital equipment I need.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m trying to expand into a big production company as well as becoming a director myself. I have a big project coming up at UT which I am excited for. I’m proud of what’s coming simply because I know I’m setting up for groundbreaking change in some communities at least. I don’t just want to make films; I want to push a good message too you know?
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Houston could be a popping place for the creative industry. I fear the only problem is people do it to ride a wave a lot of the times. There are a few people, however, who I think are truly genuine in what they do.
