Bo and Jonathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
BrandExtract started as a merger between Fisher Creative and Kern Design in 2005. We have grown through additional integrations, including acquisitions with Bravo Zulu, ParkerHayden, and Shable & Associates to become one of the larger branding agencies in Houston. This growth has been achieved through a loyal customer base with an average client tenure near 10 years. Each day we help our clients create, transform and grow their brands. Over the years, we’ve built and managed brands in a variety of B2B sectors, including energy, professional services, finance, manufacturing, nonprofit and more. Because we take an operational and data science view of branding, we help our companies look at their internal and external touchpoints along the customer journey to better manage the experiences and messages. We inspire belief and create raving fans for our clients.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you’re growing a business, no road is ever smooth. Being a dynamic organization, processes will break down as you grow, markets will experience periods of downturn, and clients will come and go. Like any entrepreneur dealing with a growing business, BrandExtract has to stay dynamic and keep pace with how our industry is evolving in order to deliver the best possible services for our clients. We’ve been good at knowing the difference between a fad and a trend.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BrandExtract – what should we know?
BrandExtract is a brand experience firm that creates new opportunities for our clients, transforms them, and grows their industry influence. As a branding company, we set ourselves apart because we stay agnostic and make strategic decisions for our clients. One of the greatest challenges for an organization like ours that helps companies grow and manage their brands is having the hard conversations. Sometimes we need to talk a client out of an initiative they committed to or ask them to change course.
We’re proud of the culture that we’ve built and the way that we’re able to give back to our community. We’re proud of the fact that we’re able to weather market shifts, like the recent oil industry downturn. It makes Bo and me happy to see our team taking leadership roles in the industry, and helping teach the next generation of designers, writers, strategists and developers.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Success is defined by getting the next project and our clients wanting to continue working with us because we’ve built a level of trust with their brand. Success means building a level of trust with a prospect, even when you don’t win their business. Our goal is to leave our client’s better than when we started working together by guiding them throughout the process. At BrandExtract, we also define success by looking back on a project and knowing we gave our best effort and have no regrets.
