Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Lewis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tiffany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Event Planning is something that is near and dear to my family but honestly was not something I ever imagined I would be doing. I always wanted to be a lawyer or a model! Long before I became an event planner, my grandmother Ruthie created AMAZING weddings and events. She would handle the decorating and my Aunt Gwen would handle the catering and baking! They were an awesome dynamic duo. They both went to school and obtained certification for their craft. Their ultimate goal was to open their own event venue. They were very close to achieving their goal but fate stepped in and unfortunately, in 2001 my aunt Gwen was murdered. My grandmother continued to work alone for many years until she developed severe carpal tunnel and it eventually forced her to give up her passion.
Fast forward a few years. Doctor’s have repeatedly told me I would never have children! By the grace of God on June 25, 2012, I gave birth to my PRINCESS Skylar Grace! She was born with developmental delays and later diagnosed with autism but that doesn’t stop my intelligent, brave, loving, caring, hilarious little ball of fire! Skylar is the Princess behind Princess Event Planning! I was so excited that I actually had a child of my own that I literally couldn’t control myself when it came to her first party. I went completely overboard on Skylar’s first and second birthday parties spending thousands of dollars! Although not an event planner at the time, I carefully planned every detail of Skylar’s party and hired all of the necessary vendors. Her parties were so over the top that everyone began telling me I should become a party planner.
There were several key factors that weighed on my decision. The biggest factor was that due to Skylar’s multiple doctor’s appointments, testings and countless therapy sessions I was not able to work a regular 9 to 5 job. One night while lying in bed, I said a prayer and asked God to please show me a sign and order my steps. After much careful consideration and prayer, I decided to go for it. I created a Facebook page with the name Princess Event Planning and I posted pictures from Skylar’s birthday parties. Potential clients began to contact me for their parties. Five years later, here I am still going strong by the grace of God!
Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? It absolutely has NOT been a smooth road. As a single mother, life already has many challenges. Trying to balance a successful business and a young daughter with special needs is more than tough. Both are fulltime jobs and are extremely demanding! Time management remains a huge obstacle for me as I continue to learn how to carefully orchestrate my business and personal schedules.
In this profession like many others, the client always comes first. They don’t care if you’re at Texas Children’s Hospital with your daughter, they are only concerned about their wedding or event as you would expect them to be! Initially, I would often feel guilty when I had to leave Skylar to go to an event. But as she grew older, it became a little easier for both of us. Also, as the business grew, I definitely had to establish business hours and enforce them. Without them, I would find myself on the phone with clients at 2am falling asleep. LOL!
Working as an event planner, I understand that things are always happening at a very fast pace and it requires alot of my time and dedication. There will always be the challenge of coordinating my life with Skylar and Princess Event planning so that the needs of both are always met with satisfaction.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Princess Event Planning Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Princess Event Planning is a full-service event planning company. We specialize in weddings, anniversaries, receptions, corporate events, quinceaneras, baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties of all ages and more! If you can celebrate it, we can create it!
I am a wedding planner and event coordinator. I believe what sets me apart from others is my careful attention to detail and that we are a one-stop shop. My clients literally show up, party and leave! I have implemented a team of phenomenal vendors so along with the beautiful detailed decorations, we also offer catering, photography, live entertainment, dj services, bartending, custom designed cakes, an array of custom desserts and any other element that is required or desired to have a successful event!
I’m most proud of our customer service, I’m completely hands-on beginning from the date the client books me until the very end of their event. After the venue is decorated and set up, all vendors are in place, and the party begins, I stay and host every event. I make sure that everything comes together and works out perfectly for the client’s total enjoyment. This is one of the reasons that most of our clients are reoccurring clients. In this profession that should always be the goal. My motto is “it’s not how many clients you can get, it’s how many you can keep!”
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue to grow as a leading event planner of Houston and its surrounding areas. I want to pursue my grandmother’s dream of opening an event venue! I currently assist my clients with finding the venue that is best suited for their event. I’m hoping to change that in the near future and provide the venue, decor and all the other event necessities. That would make us a complete one-stop shop and by the grace of God we will achieve it soon!
