Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Gabriel.
Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, my journey started in 2015, my roommate at the time and current co-host of 2WessBoyz Kang, and I had been talking about doing a podcast, but never put anything into motion. In 2016, we finally said we were going to do it, of course it happened after we moved out, and five months after I had my twin daughters. We recorded the first episode in Kang’s kitchen, we didn’t know what we were truly doing, but we knew that this could be something big if we stayed consistent with it, so the next three episodes we recorded either in his kitchen, or in his bedroom.
After episode 4 Barron Studios where Kang works at heard our podcast and wanted us to record at their studios, and since Episode 5 we’ve recorded every episode in the studio except 1 which we recorded on the road, but in that time we would sometimes record two shows back to back that we would put out separate weeks, idk how we did it and had questions for each interview but we did, and we continued to grow, and I could tell I was getting stronger as the lead interviewer each episode, and our guest could tell also, calling me the Nardwuar of Houston with all the research I do on every single guest each show, and now we’re going into our 70 episodes in three years been ups and downs but we are just cracking the surface of all our potential.
The Durag Report my second podcast came about from just talking to my guy Roy, who wanted to start his own podcast and just wanted my help, that turned into my co-hosting it with him, and then us adding Corey as our third hosts of it, and we have been recording since Oct and now close to 30 episodes in, it makes it a great balance 2WessBoyz is my in-depth, talking to our guest, and getting to know them and their music. The Durag Report is the banter and laughter and smack talk that you would normally hear in a barbershop on any given day.
Has it been a smooth road?
No it hasn’t been a smooth road, from guest schedules not lining up with ours, or guest not showing up for interviews, to the studio being overbooked, to us recording a whole hour plus of podcast, and it being erased more than once after they had been amazing podcast, and having to re-record those podcast, to just adult life getting in the way. It hasn’t been easy or smooth, but I wouldn’t have it any other way, it makes us better at our craft and stronger. Nothing comes easy, but when it does take it and run with it is my motto.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
With the 2WessBoyz we just specialize in getting the underground Houston artist, producers, etc. get the shine that they might not always get like the other big artist in the city, just give them a outlet where people can get to know them, and hear some of their music along the way, so that’s what I’m most proud of above anything else that we’ve had over 50 different artists from around Houston, some you’ve heard of some that you will like to know about after our interview.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment thus far is making it three years on 2WessBoyz and not giving up, even when it was hard and I wanted to, and being on live radio on 90.1 with my guy Eazy ERev which was pretty awesome, but just every interview we have is my proudest moment besides being a father to my daughters Giavanna and Savanna.
