Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodeney Norvil.
Rodeney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I spent my childhood years living in Cap Haitien, Haiti. Growing up there, soccer was my passion. When I moved to Houston in ’07. I wanted to continue my soccer career by joining my high school team (Cy-Fair High School) and the Dynamo soccer Club. In my junior year, I got injured with a torn ACL & Meniscus. At the age of 17, I got into the entertainment industry. I needed a DJ for my graduation party but I didn’t know any DJs in the Houston area so I decided to do it myself.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy road to success; when I was starting my career I had to rent equipment from other DJs and friends so that I can elevate and share my craft. Many of my family members were constantly telling me that it might not be a good path for me to take due to the entertainment industry environment. At that point, I started investing in my own DJ equipment to gain more gigs and exposure.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
In December 2018, I started New Flame Entertainment (NFE) with a few other DJs and friends. NFE specializes in event planning and promotions. We can also provide or connect you with the best producers/DJs along with brand ambassadors and models. NFE is most proud that our first annual summer pool party was a huge success and exceeded our expectations.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a very diverse city, you interact with multiple culture and different vibes. The nightlife in Houston have different scenes that anyone can go out and have a good time anywhere especially in the Uptown area. I would definitely recommend Houston for someone starting out because of the ease of access to get to the city and individuals are always looking for something to do. Parking in Houston can sometimes be a deterring factor to attend an event. One usually have to park on side streets or pay for parking.
