Meet James Nguyen of Wilson Amplifiers in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Nguyen.

James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We literally started in the garage with two co-founders and a sales rep. Although small, the goal was clear: customer service & support is number 1, 2, and 3 on our list. Everything else would grow if we tirelessly practiced what we preached.

From 2011 to now (2017) we’ve gone from 3 employees to over 30+ and we’ve been featured in the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Company two years in a row. Growth (professional & personal) has been exponential and we’re a very driven group always looking for the next mountain to climb.

Has it been a smooth road?
Lots of challenges: building website, having a presence on Google, aligning our goals with customer intent, building a team of good people (read: not just good workers, but people you could trust without questions), outgrowing current buildings, and outpacing current systems.

It’s all part of the process & learning pains.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wilson Amplifiers story. Tell us more about the business.
Technically, we sell cell phone signal boosters. They are equipment that improve cellular signals inside homes, offices, and cars. But we’re more actually in the business of solving problems. So our goal isn’t to sell a box but to provide a solution.

That type of philosophy permeates through the office and allows us to be just normal people doing what they would for a neighbor or friend. And that’s also been our best company policy. It’s good for people, it’s good for business, and it’s an all-around win-win.

And it’s lead to incredible growth for us.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Absolutely, 5G will change everything about our lives. People think it’s just faster data, but its way more than that. It’s like saying “Oh, this internet thing is just for PCs and computer people” back in the late 90s or early 2000s.

The internet has changed so any aspects of our lives and 5G will further connect people to other things other than a smartphone. It’s an exciting future we’ll be living in.
