Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Simmons.
Shae, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my makeup journey at Sephora in 2013. I was recruited by a manager, Mrs. Kathy, at my previous job and she needed a manager at Sephora. I had no experience doing makeup on anyone else but I had a passion and excitement for makeup. She hired me and taught me the basics and it was up from there. Everything about the application, the excitement, the connection with my clients just drew me in. From there, I felt it was my duty to take as many classes and practice my craft to bring me where I am today. My passion is what helped me book my biggest client, Keyshia Cole.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth ride. Lol Entrepreneurship is a constant roller coaster and will have anyone thinking they are not doing enough. And THAT THOUGHT PROCESS IS CORRECT. Keeping up with my artistry is not hard, but programming the way you handle and think about your business has been the most difficult thing. Go against the grain and do what’s best for your business.
Tell us about your business. What do you do, what do you specialize in?
I am a Bridal, lifestyle and Celebrity makeup artist. I specialize in timeless makeup looks while the focus is always skin. When I first started my journey, I was known as the makeup artist who did incredible eye makeup like cut creases. I mastered that and then mastered skin work. The thing that sets me apart is that I can do just about any look from a naturally radiant look to a full-blown colorful cut crease. You will always get the best of both worlds with me.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a great place for rising businesses and entrepreneurship especially makeup artistry. We have some of the best business-minded people EVER and most understand how huge the city is so there’s always room for new and upcoming artists.
