Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharieka Thompson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
To be honest with you, my journey to becoming an esthetician/lash artist was a mix between the feeling of being of tired working in retail and a suggestion by a co-work of mine. (Knowing my love for beauty and fashion.)
I just wanted that work-life balance, especially when it came to my two beautiful daughters, Kennedy and Khloe. I wanted to at least be able to take them on little outings on the weekends, but it could never happen to see as though you had to work the weekends in retail and I would have to always request off. (It’s was a must.)
Well, one day, I came to work with individual lashes I had put on myself and a co-worker of mine reaction was priceless. At that moment, she suggested, that I look into becoming an esthetician. I reacted and said “ What”? “You mean the women that work in the spa? They look bored all time” At the time, I was working at Nordstrom and they had a spa where we would see the ladies/estheticians all the time.
After looking into and researching the field, I fell in love with everything about beauty and realized that it was more I wanted to learn.
Well, at that time, I was still kinda on the fence about everything because I was afraid of being out of my comfort zone and had been in retail for so long. Until one day, I was getting dressed and my daughter Kennedy came and stood in my doorway (at the time she was 6, she’s 11 now) and noticed that I was not going with her, her sister, and their dad to enjoy the weekend with them. She’s said “Are you going to work again” and at that moment, I made the decision to go back to school.
I applied at Aveda Beauty School for Esthetics for that fall. Studied esthetics while working for that following six months, graduated, and the rest was history. I’ve been an Esthetician for four years and a Lash artist for one year and a half, and I also get to be a mommy and spend more time with my girls which is everything to me.
It took me three years to get to where I wanted to be in the industry. So, it’s definitely not how fast or how long it takes you to get there. It’s about accomplishing the ultimate goal, and I’m definitely not done yet.
I started my lash business because I love everything about lashes and skincare. Also, I looked up to my parents as pass business owners and want my daughters to look up to me as well. I want to leave a legacy for them and my future grandchildren.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
On this journey, it’s been great and I’m grateful for the experience. In the past, my challenges were overthinking, being more confident and trusting in myself. I’m still a work in progress but I’m more confident and ready than ever.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with So Vivacious Lash and Beauty Bar – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
