Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Williams.
Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for entertainment and the film industry. Since elementary, all the way up until my senior year in high school, I was known as a class clown I’d say. Back when Instagram first started with the video recording feature, I definitely jumped on that wave and had a decent fan base behind me. I went off to play college football and within my first semester of college, I found out I was having my son, a beautiful baby boy(Jayce Williams), who’s now 6. So eventually, I gave up on the videos and had to get a job to provide for my son.
I would say just recently, about three years ago I ran back into my amazing girlfriend, who’s been my biggest supporter through everything. She ultimately helped me find myself and my passion again.
I’m more of a serious writer now, who’s looking to take the film industry by storm. Where I am today is just the start of what’s to come. I’m now working on my first official feature film titled “Deception”. With hopes of landing a deal with a network to have the movie produced.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has been a roller coaster, literally! My biggest struggle through this process has been my patience, inconsistency and the lack of self-confidence in my works. I didn’t go to school for film, so I had to teach myself everything I know. Things such as how to properly format a script, what not to put and what to put, rewriting a scene and just not to rush it.
I use to look at everyone else’s life and it made me wanna rush my process. Not knowing how much information I would’ve missed had I not slowed myself down, I lost my faith in God through the process. I was a full-blown atheist who just recently found his faith back (not part of any religion though).
Many nights I cried, wanted to quit and just became so frustrated that I’d just stop writing and researching. I became friends with a guy named Russell Reed who’s also a director and he’s been a great friend as well as a mentor for me. Russell has held me accountable and has stayed on me through hard times. I’m in a way better space now, every obstacle that was in my way, I’ve concurred them. Still, a long way to go though.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is me, “JustinWilliamsProductions”. It isn’t official yet but what the world can look forward to, is my name becoming a household one.
I write short and feature films, that’s my specialty. I’m known in my community as the guy who makes movies. I’m most proud of myself because really coming up, I was a very troubled teen. I stayed in trouble at school. I went to an alternative school (school for bad kids) every year in high school. So, in my peer’s eyes, I was a kid nobody wanted their kids around.
I turned my life around and is very highly looked at in my community. My goal is to give younger kids and even adults a platform to jump into some type of theatre arts. What sets me apart is my will and drive to change not only my life but the people around me life’s. I feel as if I’m obligated to be the change in my family and community. I feel if I don’t make it, then the people in my life will suffer.
What were you like growing up?
I was very creative growing up. I can remember always drawing and coming up with something crazy for me and my brothers to get into. Personality-wise, I’ve always been someone who people wanted to be around. You could always count on me to get a laugh out of, as well as coming to me just to talk about life.
My interest growing up varied between being a professional athlete or being on television, in movies one day.
