Meet Marcus Glenn of MDOT Global in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Glenn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love and passion for music made me explore it more in depth at an early age. I would read the liner notes on my brother’s cassette tapes. I was always curious about the people that were listed on the liner notes. I would be the only kid more fascinated with Russell Simmons then RUN-DMC or intrigued by J. Prince more than Scarface. Nas is my favorite MC so I wanted to know who was responsible for the commercial success of his Second LP ‘It Was Written”, because “Illmatic” was a classic but it was not a commercial success at first. That’s when I realized a different person was pulling the strings on “It was Written” and that person was Steve Stoute. As I got older, I would always follow Steve Stoutes career moves. They say every executive wanted to be an artist at one point in their life. This was definitely my story until I realized business was my real talent. I was in a rap group called “DEM Bottum Boyz” in college where I rapped, booked studio time, created shows, designed the graphics, and searched for potential investors. This led to my opportunity to become an Intern for Universal -Motown at the time. I worked on Bun-B’s first album “Trill” and also Chamillionaire’s album “Sound of Revenge” plus many more. I loved doing music marketing but I did not like the politics of the job. I enjoy working with Independent artists because you basically are building something from scratch. I feel that is where the true talent comes out of an individual.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the biggest struggles being an Entrepreneur is managing your schedule and staying organized. It’s very easy to get to a place where you feel like everyone is pulling you and it’s not enough of you to go around. I have to make sure that my family time comes first before anything. My wife and I are very spiritual so I try to keep Sundays open for us and our daughter. I had to learn that I cannot be everywhere at one time.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife plays a big role in my success. She’s my number one supporter and biggest fan. It’s a blessing to have a best friend like that. My parents and siblings deserve tons of credit as well. My parents sacrificed a lot for me to be here today. I cannot thank them enough. My brother introduced me to hip hop at a very early age. He’s very diverse in his choices of music. My sister is a nurse’s Physician. She has always been my inspiration and motivation because the groundwork was already paved by her.
