Meet Alexander Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Scott.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a jewelry designer in Houston, Texas. I recently started my brand the Alexander Scott Collection in 2016. I began this journey when my family was losing our uncle to a brain tumor and my aunt to lymphoma and Leukemia. As I saw those I love endure such pain and inevitably watch them pass away, it was then I decided to help others going through the same pain. I decided I wanted to create a luxury brand that would be a symbol of giving.

My company donates 10% of our profits to the American Cancer Society, individual Non-Profits, and personal Go Fund Me accounts. We collaborate with organizations along with creating our own projects for kids battling cancer at Texas Children’s Hospital. We support families in a variety of ways, pay bills, provide clothes, food, and more. During the holidays we bring presents and distribute them throughout the hospitals. We have partnered with several organizations to provide Christmas for families. This past Christmas we purchased 200 Teddy Bears for kids at The Children’s Hospital! We have been working with some amazing organizations like Sky High For kids and Heroes For Children. Both who opened my eyes to the lack of adequate funding for research for children fighting cancer. As we have continued to grow, my focus has been to work with families, through social workers, who are truly slipping through the cracks of financial assistance from organizations. There are several limiting factors that hinder families from getting support.

We have acquired an amazing group of worldwide customers who have been incredibly supportive. Many who are very influential people and very involved in their communities. At the beginning of 2018, I had the pleasure to cross paths with JJ Watt. As nervous as could be approaching him, I knew I had to tell him about my brand and my purpose. I knew I wouldn’t have much time before others gathered around him in admiration. In the quickest 30 seconds, I was able to inform him about my brand and left behind my card. Expecting nothing from this, the next morning I had a message from Justin W, wanting to place a custom order. It took a moment before I put 2 and 2 together. It was then we had acquired JJ Watts support! Needless to say, I was extremely honored!

Throughout 2018, we had the chance to gain support from Ray Bouderau a brilliant movie producer who is extremely involved in his community in New York. Dante Basco who played “Rufio” the leader of the lost boys in the movie Hook with Robin Williams. One of my favorites growing up! Also, a good friend of mine Mickey Gooch who plays in many motion pictures has been incredibly supportive getting awareness on the west coast!
As we continued developing the brand we began to get involved in several organizational Gala events. We donate silent auction items as well as help set up events. We have worked with several Houston Galas including: Best Buddies, Citizens Animal Protection Services, Greater Houston Women’s Hall of Fame, Night of Superstars, Heroes For Children, and the Arthritis Foundation. I have also been involved with Tucson’s Pima College Fashion events contributing to their fundraisers. We have an amazing group of supporters in Arizona whom we work with in any way we can!

Currently, we are located in several boutiques and resorts. In Houston we have 4 boutiques; The Four Seasons Hotel, The Cotton Club Fine Jewelry, the Galvez Resort, and Meru Merus Designer Boutique. Our Hawaii resorts include the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea and the Four Seasons at Oahu at Ko Olina. I am very excited to soon announce some of our newest stores we will be a part of in the upcoming month!

My efforts to make a difference lives through our customers. We live in a community with so many generous hearts. It doesn’t matter the size of the impact we have on the world as long as we make a difference in someone’s life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I knew developing my brand would not be a simple task. There are many amazing jewelry companies out there, but very few are built on trying to make a difference for others. I have faced countless rejection from local Houston retailers who were not interested in carrying my collection. I have had people who have known me my entire life who have not supported my vision. My goal is clear and I have not progressed to where I am by focusing on what is not working; I rely on my persistence and quality jewelry line.

Being able to stay on course, while things are not going your way, has been the foundation of my mentality.
There have been several situations where we have learned about a family and in preparation for putting together something special we find out the child passed away overnight. This has been one of the hardest parts of my journey. I have met with many families and gotten to know them well. It’s never easy to hear another child passed away.

Please tell us about Alexander Scott Collection.

I am proud to say that I truly believe in our mission of helping others. I practice that by taking the time to engage with patients and create bonds with their families.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There is no right or wrong in creating. My company has been developed by my determination to make this a reality. There is little I would change about it because it would not be what it is today.
