Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Johnson.
Chad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started writing music when I was 13 years old in Mississippi. I moved to Houston, TX when I was 15 and I fell in love with the culture from the jump. I loved how the hip-hop scene was in the city and started writing even more.
I never got to record music until I met my business partner and homie AJ Navarro when I was in college at UTSA. As soon as I found out AJ worked with music it was a wrap. We recorded our first song in the middle of the kitchen and hung our microphone over a fan. One day we were talking and thought why don’t we just make our own label and sign ourselves and other dope artist. So after we both had graduated I moved back to Houston and AJ stayed in San Antonio. We continued to work on our music even though we were in different cities. I would write up a bunch of music and then drive up to San Antonio and record with him every chance I could get. We went on to officially start our own independent record label Young Lucrative Entertainment LLC in 2018. As a label/business we offer recording, mixing & mastering, writing, classes, etc. Our website will be up and running this year. AJ is moving to Houston summer 2020 and we’re going to find a new place for the studio and establish Young Lucrative Entertainment aka Y-LE in the city.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy being that my business partner lives in another city. We’ve had our struggles with creating new content and building our label brand, but we’ve somehow managed to keep the dream alive and keep building. We both have the dream of being in the music industry so we’re gonna make it happen. This past year our team has slowly grown. Because of this, we will finally be launching our website this year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Young Lucrative Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
Young Lucrative Entertainment is an independent record label. We are not only a label but a business. The goal is to sign new artist to the label and build with them. We also operate as a business that provides services. We offer recording, mixing & mastering, writing, classes, etc. We essentially want to be a hub for all things music. I’m a writer and recording artist as well as co-owner of the label. I write mostly rap/hip-hop music as well as record it but I like to write other types of music as well. I go by my stage name Yung Chad and I’m the only official artist of the label at the moment but we are talking with other potential artist.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see us growing as a label and eventually being known around not only Houston and San Antonio but all of Texas or even the US if everything works out.
