Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Huggins.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when my youngest daughter got sick in her car seat on my birthday. We had just returned from a road trip to Austin, and I had cleaned her seat two days before. We were going to visit family for the day, and when I arrived at my parents’ house, my sister-in-law mentioned how wonderful it would be if there was a company who offered car seat cleanings as a service. I thought what a wonderful idea!
I searched around and found that there was nothing like that available. In my research, I found out how infrequently people were cleaning their seats and just how dirty they typically are! I immediately decided that this was something that needed to be offered. I have always adored children, so the idea of being able to positively affect lots of children across our city really appealed to me. I launched our business six days later and have been blown away by the positive response.
It has been almost two months, and we typically book two weeks out. My husband, family and friends have been such a lifeline! It’s been amazing meeting and working with other Houston entrepreneurs. The camaraderie is so inspiring!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Things have been surprisingly seamless as we’ve grown much faster than any of us had anticipated. From the beginning, I made sure to build in family time. Our biggest hurdle has been meeting the demand for our service. We will definitely need to purchase a work van sooner than we thought!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hugs & Bubbles – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We clean car seats and strollers! We pick up, hand-wash, air-dry and deliver seats and strollers to families all throughout Houston and the surrounding areas. We pick up because while we have our customers’ seats, they cannot safely transport their children. I am so proud of the fact that we are contributing to the health of the children in our community. We are known for our excellent service and attention to detail. As of now, we are the only company that offers our service in Houston. It is so important to properly clean every part of a car seat so that they maintain their integrity. There’s no detergent involved, only gentle cleansers. We don’t soak the straps and buckles, just lots of elbow grease and damp cloths. We treat every seat as if our children are riding in them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, we would love to open some brick & mortar locations where families can drop off and pick up themselves. We’d love to offer employment opportunities to other mothers. The thing I’m most excited about is that we’ll be donating a brand new car seat and stroller set to a family in need and provide a years’ worth of monthly cleanings every year. I strongly believe that health and safety belong to everyone.
