Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle and Chris Coomer & Chris and Kelly Robles.
Michelle, Chris, Chris, and Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Michelle: I started dancing at age three and never looked back. I always wanted to become a dancer. At age 16, I moved from Southern California to Houston to train at the Houston Ballet Academy. At 18, I was offered an apprenticeship in the Houston Ballet.
Chris: I started dancing at the age of 11 after all three sisters and brother danced. Shortly after my brother, Carl Coomer joined the Houston Ballet, I was invited to train at the Houston Ballet Academy at the age of 16. At 19, I joined the Houston Ballet as an apprentice.
In 2005, we started dating after working on a pas de deux together. Michelle danced with the Houston Ballet for nine years and retired as a demi-soloist to focus on starting a family. Chris has been dancing with the Houston Ballet for 15 years and is currently a First-Soloist. We were married in 2012 and have three kids together, Ella (6 yrs old), Colton (3yrs), and Dean (18 mths).
After years of successfully managing a small local dance studio, we decided to venture out on our own. With the help of our good friends and business partners, Chris and Kelly Robles, we opened Coomer Ballet Conservatory in January 2019. We knew with all of our combined professional experience that we had a solid foundation to provide superior classical ballet training to the Pearland area.
Has it been a smooth road?
As we have expertise in dance, we really didn’t know how to make our vision a reality. Fortunately, this is where our business partners, Chris and Kelly Robles, took the lead. With their family-owned business, Guidon Building Solutions, not only did they walk us through the creation of our company on paper, they turned our empty space into the beautiful dance studio that it is today. With our knowledge of the arts and their knowledge of business, it’s been a perfect partnership.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Coomer Ballet Conservatory story. Tell us more about the business.
We provide superior classical ballet training along with other styles of dance in a fun and inspiring environment. Our faculty consists of current and former professional dancers along with other highly-qualified instructors who specialize in their field of dance. We are fully devoted to providing dancers of all ages with the opportunity to grow and excel in their dance education.
Whether it’s a child’s dream to become a professional dancer or they dance for the sheer joy of it, we encourage all of our dancers to achieve their fullest potential.
Not only do we have over two decades of professional experience between us, we understand the level of discipline and focus it takes to succeed in the dance world.
