Meet Julia Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Cole.

Julia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My music journey started in somewhat of a bizarre way. Growing up an avid lover of sports and focused athlete, I was naturally surrounded most often by teammates and coaches. They are precisely who encouraged me to start singing in public; more specifically performing The Star-Spangled Banner at my own high-school volleyball and basketball games. After singing at countless games for my own teams and many others at Klein High, my volleyball coach encouraged me to send in my national anthem video to the Houston Texans. To make a long story short, at 17 years old I found myself singing acapella before 75,000 at the sold-out season closer Texans VS. Jaguars game beneath roaring F16 fighter jets. The crazy part is, I didn’t feel nervous one bit. That’s when I knew music and performance were absolutely what I had to spend my life pursuing.

I’ve since moved to Nashville and written more melodies and lyrics than I knew could possibly exist. With the help of Lari White, Chuck Cannon, Fred Wilhelm, Jeff Garrison, Niko Moon, Danielle Blakey, Josh Ronen, and countless other incredible writers and publishers, I learned the art of songwriting and found my artist voice. Nashville has helped me build a wonderful team of brilliant industry powerhouses to help me keep the JCM ship afloat: Creative Artist Agency, Bob Doyle & Associates, Flood, Bumstead, McCready & McCarthy, Inc., Country Music Television, Spotify, Apple Music, and many others all have helped make it possible for my music to reach the over one million listeners it’s found so far. The fans I’ve met on the road opening for acts like Dan + Shay, Kenny Chesney, The Chainsmokers, Carrie Underwood, Chris Lane, Kane Brown, and tons more are the reasons I wake up each morning and do my best to make my music even better. The #ColeTeam family, nickname coined by my sports-loving dad, began in my childhood as just my parents, sisters and I. The #ColeTeam has since grown to include my Nashville family and, most importantly, my incredible fans who I have to thank for everything.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing worth having ever comes easy. There have been countless bumps in the road, and some bridges that completely collapsed beneath me. However, most of the struggles at least lead to the creation of another song or two. Between loved ones losing battles to cancer, close integral team members shifting numerous times in Nashville, and more 10+ hour van rides with no AC than you can imagine, the climb has been an uphill one often interrupted by homesick calls home to my mom. My family is my rock and truly the only reason I’ve survived the storms the past few years have brought my way.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My style of music is quite a Houston/ Nashville blend. R&B Country (think of Dan + Shay and Sam Hunt vibes) is primarily my musical direction. I love writing lyric that is honest and conversational. Connecting to my fans so they feel like I’m not just writing for me, I’m writing for them, is my goal. If I can inspire good vibes and positivity, self- confidence, and love into the hearts of even one person, I consider the day a success. If my music can provide an escape from stress for even one moment for my fans, just like music provides an escape for me, I’m down to celebrate. When it comes to inclusivity, I try to invite anyone who wants to be onto the #ColeTeam. I grew up with friends of all different backgrounds, colors, disabilities, religions, and beliefs, and learned we are all on the same planet in search of the same happiness and love. Music is a beautiful ribbon that can tie us all together. Good vibes are EVERYTHING. Find them and hold on.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve been blessed with many gifts that have helped me in my career. I don’t mean musical talent, although I’m grateful the Lord decided to add a little spice to my vocal cords. I mean having a family that I love and can depend on. I mean having the ability to wake up each day able to walk, see, hear, and dance. I’ve lost and nearly lost people I love dearly. Life has shown its fragility on a few occasions in my lifetime, so I try not to take anything for granted. So… if blessings are considered luck, I count my luck daily.
