Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sylvia A. Cole.
Dr. Cole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I published my first book in 2013. I had said earlier that year, I wanted to write a book. I started writing and speaking when I was a five-year old little girl. My maternal grandmother would take me to various churches and events in our community and surrounding areas to speak. My mother also played a significant role in nurturing my gift of speaking as well.
However, God gave me the title of my first book, I Take God at His Word, in April 2013 as I stood by my mother’s bedside while she was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Since that time, I have published 11 books and recently became a #1 Best-Selling Author.
I also speak to thousands of intermediate, middle, and high school students about FINDING PURPOSE, my message based on one of my latest books entitled, A Teen’s GPS For Finding Life’s Purpose.
Additionally, I host a weekly Talk Show entitled CALLED 2 INSPIRE with Dr. Sylvia and I host an annual conference entitled, I TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD, which is based on one of my newest faith books, I TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD: HOW TO TRUST HIM WHEN YOU CAN’T TRACE HIM.
Has it been a smooth road?
I absolutely love both writing and speaking. The biggest thing for me initially was learning the process of self-publishing. When I look back at my first book and compare it to my latest book, I definitely see the growth and know that I am a very gifted writer. Although I had to learn the process, I did not see it as a struggle but rather just a part of the process of becoming an author.

My business is CALLED 2 INSPIRE which encompasses Speaking Engagements, Book Writing, Talk Show, and Consulting. The Book Coaching entails helping others birth their books and includes everything from Editing to Ghostwriting Services. Regarding Consulting, it entails providing tutoring and teaching communication skills to both students and adults.
I am most proud of and what sets me apart from others is that I have an anointing on my life to write and speak and bless others with my gifts.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely, Houston is very diverse and every person has a story, knowledge, or experience that can bless the lives of others. I often say that “our gift will make room for us.” Houston is also a great beautiful city to start out as well.
