Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Washington.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is an example of God’s grace by the age of six, both of my parents were deceased. For the next six years, I was raised by my Godmother (God-sent), then she passed away when I was 12. By this time, my life should be doomed but that’s where God’s grace comes in. In high school, I move with my only maternal sibling, my sister Q and between her and God they got my life on the right track. I graduated from high school and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Finance and an MBA. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved hair and makeup. After my MBA, I decided to follow my passion and I became a licensed cosmetologist in 2013. I worked three years as a MAC pro-Makeup Artist and two and a half years as Hairstylist at DRYBAR, all while maintaining a full-time job as a Financial Analyst. Over the years, I have taken training classes to stay up on current trends in hair and makeup. Also, I continue to build my clientele by photoshoots, social media, and networking. After all, I have told you I am just getting started on where God plans to take me.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been an easy road, I took a few losses and had many trial and error situations. Two pieces of advice I have is, patience is a virtue it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Also, you get what you pay for invest in yourself.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jazzed By JoNae – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I do professional makeup for all occasions, and I specialize in natural hair care and weave extensions from ponytails to sew-ins to custom U-part wig units. What I feel sets me apart is being authentic and my focus on superb customer service. I go above and beyond hair and makeup service if needed.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I had to overcome many obstacles in my childhood. Experiencing death at a young age alone, I feel set me up to become more independent knowing I don’t have a mother or father to go to. I was exposed to a lot of bad things in my childhood that a child should not be exposed to, but with God’s grace, I used those negative things to drive my determination to have a better life. I have seen a lot of what not to do.
