Life and Work with Meagen Post

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagen Post.

Meagen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Toast to Post blog two years ago. I felt like I was missing something in my life, and thought that starting a blog would be my creative outlet/hobby. It started off as more of an online journal, and then, when I was returning to my daytime job from maternity leave last fall, I started noticing the lack of #workwear and women in the workplace posts. I could find 100 bloggers trying to tell me why I needed this $10 romper that comes in 14 different colors, but being I dress business casual every day, that did me no good. I’ve always felt I do a pretty good job of dressing professionally and wanted to share my ideas with others. It is very important to me to maintain a sense of honesty with my followers; therefore, I show them my daily looks right before I run out the door in my stories, as well as more styled posts in my feed. I was a teacher for 3.5 years out of college before transitioning into oil and gas. It was a tough transition a first, but looking back, I know it was the right decision. I am glad I am able to share my daily looks with other women in a professional setting in hopes that it empowers and encourages them to be the best version of themselves.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely there have been struggles along the way! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve doubted myself, and even talked myself out of attempting something new. My number one piece of advice for the youngin’s would be to have confidence in yourself and be your own cheerleader. I always believed that if I worked hard, people would notice, and I would be rewarded. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way. You need to find a good way to show off your accomplishments without sounding like you are bragging. There is a difference between updating your boss on your progress as you work on a project and sending out an email blast telling the whole department what you’ve accomplished. Don’t be afraid to speak up in meetings, network with as many people as you can, and take on the challenging opportunity (which we all know means it will be something tough!).

Please tell us about Toast to Post.
For my day to day job, I am a natural gas scheduler. Like I said previously, I was a teacher for 3.5 years out of college. Once I moved to Houston, I decided it was time to switch industries, and what better industry to get into than oil and gas. The group that I am in is responsible for selling our natural gas production. As a scheduler, I schedule the gas on the corresponding pipeline and ensure it gets delivered to our customers, with it ultimately being used for residential use (think heating/ac.) I’ve managed to use my knowledge with working in the corporate world to inspire my blog, Toast to Post.

Toast to Post was born out of just looking for a hobby, and after some ups and downs (think breaking my ankle, Hurricane Harvey, trying to get pregnant, becoming pregnant with twins, having twins at 33 weeks) I have finally found my niche. I love sharing my daily workwear looks, sharing mom tips and hacks, and my favorite topic – the twins! I’ve chosen to put my personal life out there with the hope that others are learning and motivated by my content. There are days when I am so tired from working and momming that all I want to do is lay in bed and watch Netflix, but then I get a dm from someone saying, “You’ve inspired me so much to step up my workwear looks and now I feel so much more confident at work!” and that right there is exactly why I do it. It means so much to know I’m inspiring others and setting a positive example of being a working woman! Toast to Post is a place where you can find my latest fashion recommendations for the workplace, seasonal decorating tips and recipes, and of course, all things momlife.  I always keep in mind that what I publish is out there for the world to see; therefore, it needs to be high quality and set a positive example.

Who have you been inspired by?
This may be slightly cliche, but my mom. We didn’t always see eye to eye when I was growing up, but now that I have a daughter of my own, so many things make sense. My mom managed being a working mom, having three little kids, getting her master’s degree, and being active in her community. We had family dinners, went to church, and of course, went on shopping trips. And it would be a terrible injustice to not include the many thousands of miles my mom (and dad) drove all over Texas and other parts of the country to support my brothers and I in our various sports and other activities.  It was never a question of whether mom and dad would be there, cheering from the stands, bleachers, or sidelines, but more or less how early would they be. She set the ultimate example of how working hard and being devoted to your family keeps the family as a unit and my family still has very close relationships to this day.
