Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Freeman.
Aisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story began when I was 11 years old. My first sister was born and then a few short years later my second sister was born. Being the oldest of three girls was a challenge. I always wanted to help them, protect them, and ensure they were prepared for any situation. With that in mind, as time progressed I would volunteer for several nonprofits outside of school and serve the youth of the community.
Once, I graduated from high school I pursued my education in Louisiana. Following my undergraduate courses, I moved to Monroe, Louisiana to continue on with a graduate degree in health education. During that time, I worked with my church along with several organizations educating them on the importance of nutrition and physical activity.
As time continued, I saw several trends among girls and young women I worked with between the ages of 12-20, which prompted me to further my knowledge of self-esteem, confidence and self-care. The girls and women I worked with were unhappy, bullied, dismissed and their confidence was at an all-time low. This lead me to start mentoring girls one-on-one and in group settings. As this continued to grow, I then formed Run Your Queendom Inc., in January 2017. Following the establishment of the organization, I moved to Houston, TX and expanded on what I started.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road for starting and maintaining a non-profit have not been easy. Their have been times when I thought of giving up, but then I remembered one of my favorite quotes that says, “if not me, then who?”
I strive to always finish what I start and with Run Your Queendom Inc., I plan on continuing regardless of the obstacles and challenges that may arise. Our girls need a support system and if we stop now then they won’t get to where they are destined to be.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
