Today we’d like to introduce you to Miracle Spells.
Miracle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being that I love sweets, I’ve been baking since I was about 13 years ago. Years ago the dream of owning a Dessert Bar was placed in my heart, however, the comfortable day-to-day tasks of being a wife, mother, and educator placed that dream in the back of my mind.
Long story short, in December of last year a coworker, who has turned into a close friend of mine, found out that I baked and urged me to bake three desserts, place them in the break room with an order form, and let the magic work.
Well, I did and to my surprise the whole staff was raving about my desserts and I had orders! That pretty much reignited the passion and dream that placed inside of me years ago.
This past school year was my last year as a full-time educator as I believed God used the struggles and discomfort of the school year to basically take me by the shoulders and shake me like “what are you doing!? Teaching was supposed to be on your journey, not your final stop!” As I’ll admit, I had gotten comfortable teaching.
I talked things over with my husband and he supported my decision in stepping down to make my dreams come true.
Now, I am a full-time entrepreneur who is working towards one day owning my own dessert bar!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One main struggle for me has been stepping out of my comfort zone and not letting fear control me. Not allowing the fear of failure, the fear of what-if, and the fear of not being good enough hold me back.
Another struggle has been remembering God’s promises even when I can’t clearly see the road. I am the type of person that wants to know when, where, and how. I’ve pretty much been struggling with that as when you are an entrepreneur, you don’t really know what’s going to happen from month to month or even day to day versus being an employee with a set salary. But I am slowly learning that all I need to do is be faithful, consistent, and diligent in doing my part and He will do His!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mi’s Sweet Treats story. Tell us more about the business.
Mi’s Sweet Treats specializes in “down home” decadent desserts delivered straight to your door! From homemade cinnamon rolls to cheesecakes, you can taste the gift, passion, and love in every bite.
I am frequently asked if I make cakes and I always answer by saying if you are looking for someone to do the fancy tiered cakes and whatnot then I am NOT your girl! Lol
My baking and desserts are reminiscent of MawMaw’s and Big Mama’s desserts where you taste the love and butter in every bite and that is what sets me apart from others.
I am proud of the reactions people have when they taste my desserts. Baking is an art and I am sensitive about my art so when someone takes one bite of your carrot cake or cinnamon rolls and the first thing they say is “wow,” it definitely makes your chest swell.
But I am most proud to be able to continue the legacy and gift of baking that both of my grandmothers have passed to me. One day that legacy and gift will hopefully be passed down to one (if not all) of my children.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
More bakers will (and are) having to adapt to the many different diets such as keto, vegan, and gluten-free. We are also already in the era of consumers wanting goods delivered to them so I feel like that aspect will continue to grow.
