Meet Katy Castellanos-Pineda of Kcgallery in Spring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Castellanos-Pineda.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started liking photography at a very young age. Around the age of five or six, I had received my first camera which was a Fiji FinePix A610, one of the earliest digital cameras during the time. I took it everywhere and took pictures of everything I could. To this day I still own the camera and take it with me almost everywhere.

Growing up, I loved watching video tutorials on editing and different tools and tricks, equipment reviews and photoshoot ideas. I have always been fascinated with how much one can create and show in a single image. I started actually taking pictures in the winter of 2018. I had just purchased my first digital camera at the age of 17 and quickly began my journey in capturing moments.10 months later and I have done over 30 photoshoots and have been able to receive amazing opportunities that I truly have been thankful for.

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe in anything being completely smooth or in control. I am a strong believer in sudden change, meaning change is so constant that it is the only thing one has to be able to get comfortable with. I definitely have had my fair share of times where I thought photography wasn’t for me. I also do not doubt that those will be the last times I go to that state of mind. I have struggled with several mental breakdowns from frustration. Photography is EXTREMELY time consuming and can really get to you when you’re a perfectionist.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kcgallery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I do photography ranging from street style pictures to special events. I would say most of my work would be known for fashion like photography. I’d say what I’m most proud of wouldn’t necessarily be my pictures anymore, I would definitely have to say its the boost In confidence I give others. With every photoshoot that I do, I get amazing feedback from whoever was modeling. Hearing that I have given someone confidence and security in themselves is probably what makes everything I do worth it. Creating images that create smiles.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m from California and was raised as a kid in Maryland and West Virginia. The change from up north to Houston, Texas was definitely different. I absolutely love the city and the people in it. As I’ve gotten older I’ve been able to meet new people with amazing visions and all types of different cultural differences. I think what I love about Houston the most is that the hustle here is like no other. So many young people here have so many goals and aspirations and they chase them. I do have to say what I like the least is the lack of support within community within one another. Now don’t get me wrong Houston is strong when it comes to support and showing love. But I think there is an extreme lack of love within friends and neighbors. There is a big number of inspiring and talented kids all around us and it’s sad to see hard work not being put on the spotlight where needed.
