Today we’d like to introduce you to Sade Hall.
Sade, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Honestly, all this started because I could not afford to get my hair done so I begin to do it myself. After more than a few compliments and service request, I finally took my first client. I charged her $50 for waist length box braids. I honestly had no clue what I was doing but they came out decent..kinda.. the parts were neat at least lol.
But it was then in that moment when I begin to challenge myself to get better at this craft. Over the next several weeks I enrolled in YouTube University and studied like midterms were hours away. After moving back to Houston I switched my Instagram to a business profile wiped it clean of my personal content a birthed Fetching. I went into the business with a “Pain in Full” approach. I wanted to be known for providing the same or better quality service for less than or in some cases half the price. So from my moms living room to my empty apartment, back to my mom’s kitchen and then finally to a beautiful shop in rice village I never gave up or lost faith.
I love what I do and every obstacle that I had to get over to bring me to where I am today. I get to meet and build relationships with people from all walks of life. My clients call me their therapist but they have no clue how much our appointments are like therapy sessions for me. Keeps me on my toes constantly sharing and trading information, networking, genuine conversation, and let’s not forget the slay. Sometimes, I get discouraged but never defeated. I know it will be hard but not impossible. I just continue to pray for guidance and protection. God placed it in my heart and I am a firm believer that “If he brings you to it he’ll bring you through it!”.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth, haha, of course not, but that’s how I knew I was doing something right. I’ve had more struggles than I’ve had success if we’re being honest. The main one until earlier this year was always location. I worked everywhere from my mom’s kitchen to my empty apartment to ubering across the city back and forth to client’s homes. it wasn’t until the beginning of this year I was able to afford a salon space. Aside from location, advertising and marketing were also major things I struggled with. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get my content seen by more people. I flooded my timeline for months on end and yet I was barely getting by. It wasn’t until I did some research on social media marketing that I figured out a way to reach a lot more people without outsourcing or paying for promotions. Those are just a few of many of the struggles I’ve had to and will face in the future. However, I know failure is merely a step towards success and I’m more than okay with that.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fetching Hair Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
Fetching Hair Co is a Professional Hair Braiding business specializing in protective styles. We offer services to women, men, and children. Fetching is known for the experience. Hair is included with all styles, braids that are pain-free, lightweight, and neat. Styles are completed in a timely manner and it’s all at a price the competition can’t beat. I am most proud of the clientele I’ve grown via word of mouth. It is very reassuring to know that my work is speaking for itself. To know that someone not only enjoyed their experience but went out and bragged about it to others warms my heart in ways I can’t put into words. In my personal opinion, I’d have to say the entire experience is different. I think the personal connections I make with the clients really give me a decent gap compared to other stylists. Its always like meeting up with one of my cousins whether its the first time meeting or not. The conversations range from comedy roast to world debates, to love stories, and life lessons. The connection I make with people is unmatched and I am forever grateful for this gift and position God has granted me.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
That’s a great question I do, I have plans on opening a beauty bar specializing in multi-services for women by women. The beauty bar will house braiders, nail techs, lash techs, aestheticians, barbers, and makeup artists, I want to expand the Fetching experience to meet all my client’s needs in the most efficient way. I am currently enrolled in the SURE program at the University of Houston. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the program but it helps local entrepreneurs sharpen the business skills and provides them with the tools they will need to successfully start or scale up a business. I’m eager to sponge up everything so that I can begin to make bigger strides towards my beauty bar.
