Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Garcia.
Martha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began practicing martial arts at a very young age under the instruction of my father. I’ve always had that competitive edge. My father would always push me to become better. Fitness was part of our everyday routine. Running, boxing, kickboxing, and competitions on the weekends. Discipline and consistency has help guide my life. I was a teenage single mom and it was tough growing up. I have overcome many obstacles. Through hard work and sacrifices, I have received my Bachelor’s degree in Business administration all while traveling TX competing. I hold a black belt 5th degree in Shudokan karate. I have traveled to Spain, Greece and heading to Austria to compete in the World Karate Union (WKU) world championship. I began my brand KarateBae at the beginning of this year. My hope is that by my achievements and continuous progress, I would like to motivate and inspire others to reach their goal.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not a smooth ride. Struggles of course. My biggest struggle was believing in my self. I get asked all the time how do you not believe in your self you practice karate. Well, insecurities, self-esteem and believing in yourself have nothing to do with karate or fitness. It’s something you deal within yourself. You have to acknowledge it, accept it and work really hard with yourself to understand it. Never stop working and never give up and understand that not everyone will accept you or believe in you. There’s a lot more to this. 🙂
Please tell us about KarateBae.
I practice and teach karate.
I started hitting the gym and lifting weights and lost about 30 lb.
I enjoy pushing the limits and believe the body is an amazing machine.
I love to motivate and inspire others through my achievements and karate conditioning boot camps.
What sets me apart is that I combine weight lifting, karate, conditioning and self-defense to help build a strong mindset and a healthier lifestyle.
Who have you been inspired by?
Ashley Horner has been my biggest idol in the fitness industry. She is strong-minded, a mother of three and very motivating. She went through her weight loss struggle and single mom status for a while but she was always relentless. Hard-working and pushed herself t the limit. Proud of her flaws and never giving up.
