Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Eros.
Erika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was not born in Houston but consider myself a Houstonian since I moved here when I was eight. I was the shyest kid, kind of a wallflower child, growing up in Miami, Florida in the 80’s with my somewhat hippie mom and my Hungarian dad who was always so sleek and trendy. You never realize how much of an impact your family has on who you, until hindsight! Like my charismatic southern bell of a grandmother, whom I realize now was the such an inspiration to me. She was the coolest person I knew as a kid!
My grandma was a Houston REALTOR®. I remember going to work with her [how annoying that must have been for her, at my age] and you could just see she loved what she did! And I knew even her clients and colleagues loved her because she’d build relationships that lasted a lifetime. Always getting gifts and receiving Christmas cards proved their gratitude in my eyes. That taught me; you must love what you do and cherish the ones who were apart of the journey.
Another thing I’ve learned about myself is my love of interior design and fashion. I assume it came from my family’s eclectic style and my fascination with the always changing generation of home decor while “working with Grandma”. I was fascinated with the unique décor each home had. It varied from live swans, a Japanese Garden Design just like Mr. Miyagi’s in The Karate Kid and we can’t forget the Better Homes and Gardens mauve and green cottage theme!
I knew I wanted to be a part of this world and I did! I became a licensed Texas REALTOR® and was pursuing my passion in Real Estate. Then the recession hit. I had been in Real Estate just a few years at that point and I, along with others, could not weather the storm. I ventured into management and marketing in the Aesthetic industry for 12 years, but I always knew I would return to Real Estate.
When my daughter moved to London for school, I thought there’s no better time to dive back into my passion. The time aligned and here I am, serving the Houston community with my neighborhood expertise and enthusiasm. I currently am an agent with NAN & Company Properties/Christie’s International Real Estate and loving every minute!
Has it been a smooth road?
I will say the thought of returning to real estate was a bit frightening. The industry and the world had changed so much from when I initially started in the business. I questioned the influence of the current digital presence. I was curious how Zillow and Realtor.com would affect the industry. I questioned how Realtor’s market themselves through social media? I wasn’t sure how to adapt to the “new way of Real Estate”. However, I persevered despite my fear and doubt. I used the skills I acquired from my previous management and marketing experience to overcome these feelings and slowly the fear subsided, and I became confident and sure that I would adapt and thrive.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Upon returning to real estate my focus was broaden my services from my previous way as a REALTOR®. My focus is to work in all elements of the business. I love to work with investors, lots, multi-family, commercial and residential. I do specialize in the best Inner Loop Houston neighborhoods; however, I am not limited to this and am always available to help all needs of my clients wherever this may be in the city. My diversity of commitment to provide my clients with the representation that suits their needs is what sets me apart. I make sure they are informed of all information needed to make the best decision for their interest and wants.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Although I do specialize in the Inner Loop, I love the diversity Houston offers in each area of the city. I genuinely find uniqueness in every suburb and love how the city and communities are growing. The restaurants, entertainment, sports, arts, theatre, museums are all exceptional! My one dislike is the damage storms bring to Houston. It breaks my heart the devastation a couple of days of downpours can bring to our Houstonians.
