Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Peltier and Jennifer Rentschler.
Lauren and Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Lotus Designs is a Mother/Daughter owned company. Jenny (my mother) was in the industry for about 20 years working for other companies and I (Lauren) was a teacher three years. I enjoyed it, loved the kids and coaching but knew that was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. A friend of mine gave me the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad and insisted I read it.
Halfway through the book I decided I wanted to be my own boss and work for myself. and there was nothing that could change my mind, Several different business options ran through my mind but one stuck with me. A screen printing and embroidery shop. This was something that could be a blessing for my mom as well as myself. Jenny had tons of experience in the industry and I had had lots of connections from years of teaching and coaching. I also thought about my mom taking all of her hard work and knowledge and putting that into something for herself rather than someone else’s company. I brought it to her attention and she was not into it.
She was scared to leave her job and make the jump. Which I understood but I knew between her knowledge/experience and my drive, we could make this a successful company. I did not stop bothering her about it until she finally gave in. Here we are almost four years later and continually growing with time. We have been beyond blessed with the support from our family and friends and cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. More orders! More happy customers! More equipment! A larger shop! I see it all! Crazy Faith!
Has it been a smooth road?
It was rough in the beginning. We were working multiple jobs to pay bills. I was waking up early to be a personal trainer, working at the shop during the day and bartending late at night. I was exhausted all of the time. A friend told me I needed to cut out the extra jobs and just focus on Lotus. It was hard financially at first but in the long run has been some of the best advice.
We brought on an additional salesperson and got help in the shop. That has been a tremendous help as well!
We still have tons of room for growth but we are excited to be where we are.
