Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanesa Veitia.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanesa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Venezuela and came to the United States in 2003. I’ve been living in Houston since and could not be more in love with the city’s rich and diverse culture. As soon as I could, I applied for a seasonal job at Foley’s Department Store, prior to being acquired by Macy’s, Inc., which became my very first job. After what seemed to be a short amount of time, but with a lot of hard work and dedication, I was offered a full-time position with the company. I was able to start a career and it’s allowed me to step into many roles, including my current role as a Macy’s Personal Stylist fashion expert at Macy’s Houston Galleria.
Growing up as a child back home in Venezuela, I always lived with my head in the clouds! I loved to dress up, staring in the mirror for hours and modeling my “fashion” creations. Music and dancing was a big part of growing up to the point where my older brother and I used to put on mini-performances for our family with costumes, choreography and an impeccable lip sync technique! I developed a love for music, dancing and reading at a young age and I can still break into a singing piece at the drop of a hat.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is always full of opportunities and new things to learn which means a few bumps and curves along the way. One of the first challenges I encountered after coming to the United States was of course the language barrier! However, my desire to make my dreams come true was bigger than any challenge. I enrolled in school, practiced my English with anyone who would listen, started to read more in English and attended church services in English.
The key for me has always been to keep pushing and pressing and to remind myself why I’m doing what I’m doing. When faced with challenges in life, I often tell myself: “This too shall pass. This is temporary. Look how far you’ve come and keep on going!” Of course the support of my family, friends and church has been instrumental to overcoming challenges and leading a successful career.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Macy’s Houston Galleria – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
