Briona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started with blogging from being a naturally inquisitive person myself. I love giving and getting advice and my time as a manager in corporate America only reinforced how much I enjoy using my experience to help people around me. Life is trial and error. If my experience can make someone’s life easier, then I feel like I’m doing my job.
Has it been a smooth road?
This journey hasn’t been easy to say the least. Following a series of unfortunate events and ultimately the death of my mother, I felt that it was important to stop fearing vulnerability and tell my story in hopes that I could help even just one person. Even that process has been difficult, though. I’m very private. It’s hard to admit that I struggle with things as personal as my health or relationships. However, I wanted my “influence” to more real. Brionamission.com isn’t just about the glamour of traveling the world or other fun things I do. I want to show my experience full circle.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Brionamission.com is a lifestyle blog where you’ll find everything from natural hair care tips, health, truth (#ImThatFriend), budgeted balling (#GrouponGroupie) and wanderlust. The thing that makes me most proud is that I am able to help my audience by simply being myself unapologetically. I wouldn’t consider my topics for focus unique, but I believe my perspective on those topics are very unique and value added.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see a huge opportunity for bloggers in the next 5-10 years. If someone is looking to make a career out of it, it’s absolutely possible because individual voices are more powerful than they have ever been.
