Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Moreno.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I was a kid, I was always involved and interested in music. I started practicing singing at a young age and finding my voice. In high school, a close friend Daniel Saenz and I created “The Betrayal of Abigail” a rock band which I became the front man for; and that is when my love and passion for music really grew. I acquired many skills and began learning new instruments such as guitar, piano, and bass. Two years went by and we had won 2nd place for “Battle of the Bands” in Houston (2014) but shortly after, I departed from the band due to line-up and a genre change. Daniel and I stayed close and tried reforming a new band with local drummer Bradley Escalente and a few other local musicians. Pretty soon, Bradley introduced us to his Metal band “Relive the Crisis” which led to the two bands joining together. Our time with Relive the Crisis was short, Daniel left to continue with our old band and I left to start Saving Dreams. It took me a while to find the perfect genre for me which is Acoustic/Alternative. It’s a lot easier on my voice and I struggled a lot in the past finding my voice in the Metal/Rock scene.
I wrote my first song Mountains and Oceans and as proud as I was, something was missing. I sent the song over to Daniel and he immediately came up with leads for the song. He became a huge part of Saving Dreams and really helped bring my songs to life. It didn’t take long for us to produce our first single, followed up by our EP “Light the Night”. After the release, we began doing plenty of shows in 2017 and we were off to a good start. When 2018 came around, Saving Dreams really slowed down and there wasn’t much progression. We picked back up in 2019 with shows and it’s been an amazing year so far and the best shows yet. We started making a good amount of fans and growing as a band. After a few successful shows, Daniel decided it was best for him to depart from Saving Dreams for personal reasons. I couldn’t leave Saving Dreams behind so I am now carrying it as a solo project. I recently just finished recording my first song as a solo artist with Convergence Audio, which will be released this month, October 2019. I’m really looking forward to the things ahead of me and super excited to continue as a Singer/Songwriter for Saving Dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every journey, no matter how big or small will have its ups and downs. My main problem that I face every once in a while is the feeling of not being good enough and that things won’t turn out the way I want them to. Creating music and writing songs is one of the hardest things I’ve done in life honestly and it’s a challenge everyday. It’s not as simple as picking up an instrument and creating a melody to the rhythm. It comes with a lot more and its very competitive as there are so many creative and talented artist out there. I’ve learned so much this year about myself and my writing style and I think I am finally getting in control of creating original material and making it something special and unique. Another big struggle was losing my bandmate because he was the second half of Saving Dreams. I think a good way to look at it is taking these problems and struggles and using them as motivation to never give up, even though you have the reasons too. I’m thankful for all the bumpy roads I’ve been on in my music career because they eventually led me down the right path and made me into the musician I am today.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Saving Dreams is an Alternative solo project that comes from an Acoustic background. I write music based on personal experiences and I really try to connect with my fans with the lyrics I create or even the feeling and mood of the instrumentals. I grew up depending on music to be the cure for my happiness and I want my music to be the same thing for my listeners. I think if I could pick one thing that sets me apart from other musicians is the style of the music I create. What I hear a lot from fans is “I’ve never heard this kind of music before” which amazes me knowing that I may be starting something new. I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown over the years as a musician and its a blessing to see the fan base I created.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was a recent experience which was recording my second single that will be released this month of October 2019. It’ll be my first song produced as a solo artist and I feel like it will be a huge jump for Saving Dreams. The sound is a bit different from the previous songs I’ve released before but I think that it is a good change and its one of the most meaningful songs I have written. After becoming solo, I could of disbanded Saving Dreams but I decided to just take it as an opportunity to create something that will take Saving Dreams to another level. I’m really excited for the release and I 100% believe my fans will love the new Saving Dreams.
