Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Montoya.
Born in Bogotá (Colombia), on September 26, the second of four siblings, she lived all her childhood and part of her adolescence in her hometown. She became an adopted daughter of the Colombian Plains Region (Villavicencio, Meta) for 12 years, then moved to Houston (Texas, USA), where she currently lives.
Graduated in Journalism, in Colombia, she has been practicing for more than 15 years, working in different areas such as radio, press and television, video production, web designing, social networks, and as events host. She loves her career because there is always something to learn from each story and it is also a way to help those in need.
Paola began her work in Houston as a producer and has been a correspondent for different local, national and international media outlets. She currently has her own communications company: PR Media Houston, which specializes in the production and editing of corporate and business videos, logo animations and web design. Without leaving her journalistic side behind, she continues writing and making her personal blogs/vlogs on her website www.paomontoya.com.
With the publication of her book on Amazon, ‘Piel de Ángel Versos de Papel’, was born the idea of holding women’s empowerment and leadership events in order to publicize the story behind this publication and show how after 15 years Paola managed to crystallize a dream as an example of empowerment and persistence. The objective of the events is to recognize in those women (and men) their life history motivating and transmitting a message of empowerment and encouragement as a key in the processes of personal development.
Let’s talk about poetry, EMPOWERMENT and ENTREPRENEURSHIP!
– Personal Life
Paola is happily married and mother of two wonderful boys 6 and 3. She likes to practice Kundalini Yoga, dance, and enjoy the simple things that life gives her; she values her time with family but also in solitude. Her role as a mother has opened unexpected paths leading her to feel the emotion and awakening of true love. Paola loves coffee in the morning and feather pillows enjoys seeing the colors of the rainbow and closing her eyes under the sun to receive his renewing energy. Pao prefers the beach and the heat to the cold and the mountains. She doesn’t like to run, but she does ride a bike. The daily challenge: to be a mom, wife and worker/entrepreneur, but she always takes time to share a good talk with her friends.
Paola’s heart fills every time she sees a smile or the eyes of her children, she tries to be strong in the face of adversity, looking for the positive side of things; likes to cry alone, and believes in people’s goodness. She is not perfect, but she has a good heart and tries to learn from her mistakes. She believes in God, the Virgin Mary, in angels and in saints. She is not a friend of the kitchen and has faith that the world will be better if we sow love at home.
It is a great challenge to create a company, but thank God we have the opportunity to do so in the United States. Here we can commit to high-quality standards and professionalism; we can become a good example to follow and we can support those who want to make a home abroad. I believe that hardworking women always set an example and help society move forward; they have initiative to lead. I want to use my time focused on my profession and the community that surrounds me; I have the goal of reaching people in need every day with a message of encouragement and support.

It is a great opportunity for Networking, to meet with new and old friends and to recognize in those women their life story, in order to motivate women and men to convey the message:
“Empower your dreams”
“Empower your projects”
“Empower your life”
“Empower your present”
“Empower yourself”
We welcome you to our next events, where we will read passages from the book Piel de Ángel Versos de Papel; we will also have special guests who will talk about empowerment from their own life story.
Because behind every human being there is a story that needs to be heard.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t call them struggles; I would tell them learnings. I believe that everything in life has a process, and each person needs to live or experience certain situations that will help them grow in all aspects of life. Change generates movement and makes us leave our comfort zone creating feelings and emotions that many times we do not expect. When we leave our country, we almost always have a hard time leaving our families, we have moments of loneliness, sadness and nostalgia. I think that happens to all or almost everyone who at some point made the decision to look for new horizons and to think about a better future.
The other thing that usually happens to us is that we want solutions to our problems fast, we lose patience, and that is where we begin to learn and understand that processes take time and that we must start doing what we can with what we have. We begin to open our path and it is here that our attitude becomes most important: you move forward or you get stuck.
I felt a need to learn and improve the language, so I enrolled in English classes. Houston has approximately 38% of Spanish speaking population, so it is difficult to practice. This made my learning slower since you find someone who speaks to you in your language most of the time. When I became pregnant with my first child, I postponed my studies. Little by little, life was taking another form, so I started to postpone my initial projects because new life goals were born.
Although there were many changes, I had the fortune and opportunity to work as a journalist since I arrived in the United States. During the process I decided to resume the publication of my book ‘Piel de Ángel Versos de Papel’, had another child and continued in force in my profession. In order to manage my own schedule and be able to be a mom, wife and professional, I decided to create my own communications company: PR Media Houston.
I confess, there were times when I felt saturated, and that I couldn’t deal with everything. Although I refused to stop working, I had to spend more time with my children, take care of things in the house, and I needed more hours of sleep. I also did not want to get into a so-called marriage crisis ahead of time, so recently I stopped things a little, took a deep breath and started again, yes from scratch, to make new decisions, and to wonder what were the real priorities in my life at this time. After seven years, things have changed, the environment changed and I have changed. It is at these moments when you are alone with yourself, that you start wondering what is really important and the opinion of others may be pushed to the background.
There comes that moment of personal fulfillment, where you breathe more calmly, you drink coffee more slowly, you sit down to do homework to learn from your children, and divide your time by giving balance to your days. Staying home and going to sleep early on Friday becomes more important and enjoyable than partying at an event. You understand that processes take time, that you should have a clear focus on what you want and where you are going, and that even if your projects take time, you should never abandon them because persistence wins and time is pressing.
I invite you to breathe deeply and return to your essence, to retake that part of you that is not gone, and to find in those struggles the strength and guidance you need.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My favorites things to do in the whole world are smile and do business. Because what gets me out of bed in the morning are the people that make this world move, and I’m on a mission to help them move it. I love my career because there is always something to learn from each story and it is also a way to help those in need.
I currently have my own communications company: PR Media Houston, which specializes in the production and editing of corporate and business videos, logo animations and web design.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Houston has become the largest city in Texas (and the southern United States). As one of the major corporate centers, Houston is home to 18 Fortune 500 companies.
This makes Houston an excellent place to live and do business. There is room for everyone who wants to be an entrepreneur. Each day the number of visitors and investors who are interested in Houston increases. Houston infrastructure is also strengthened by three major airports, which make up the sixth largest airport system in the world.
Job opportunities are abundant, but you have to work for them. It’s not easy because you have to be competitive and offer quality work; you need to be up to date and constantly learning to be able to set yourself apart from others.
The market is constantly changing; it is necessary that you know what you do. It’s very important to be at the technology forefront and be able to meet customer needs.
Houston is a multilingual and multicultural city, it is very diverse and more than 90 languages are spoken. The multicultural environment enriches life and allows you to reach more people, especially if you speak more than one language.
