Meet Raj Bose of Raj Bose Photography in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raj Bose.

Raj, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an engineer by profession and work in the oil and gas industry. I grew up in India in a family of musicians so naturally I was inclined towards music. I grew up to be a successful musician. I have played in a professional band in India for very many years. Presently, I perform around Houston area once in a while and all the proceeds go to charity.

I have been lucky to travel with my parents and my friends in my childhood but one thing I always had with me was a camera albeit it was a cheap film based point and shoot. But even with a point and shoot camera I used to take some good images and finally in 2008 I bought my first DSLR camera and bought a Canon 50D with 24-105 f/4L lens. Luckily, I started traveling quite extensively from 2008 and started taking photos very seriously. At the same time, I spent lot of time learning the trade.

I am a self-taught photographer and I did not get any formal training, I spend lot of time reading books on photography and also picked up lot of nice tricks from the net. Due to the encouragement of my family and friends, I started doing photography very seriously and things really picked up since 2016.

In reality, when If there is one thing that gets me going, it is capturing the world, the way I see it; the camera being an extension of my body. I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to travel extensively and see some of the most astounding places on earth. Travelling is a spiritual quest for me. Every country teaches me invaluable lessons in topography, food habits, culture, lifestyle and their philosophy of life. So far, I have visited more than 20 countries and have established myself as a reputed landscape and portrait photographer. I also conduct photography workshops. The most recent one was in May 2017 in Tuscany, Italy. I have few more workshops lined up for 2017-28. The details will be uploaded in my website www.rajbose.com soon. I also announce my workshops in Instagram account rajbose1 where I have currently have almost 29K followers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, it has not been a smooth journey. There are so many good professional photographers in Houston and establishing myself in this profession has not been easy at all. Firstly, I did not want to just take photograph in weddings and make money. That is not my philosophy. I have serious passion for photography and I really get lot of satisfaction in capturing the “natural essence of the moment”. Whether it is a landscape shot or a wedding portrait- I always try to maintain the natural balance of the image and try to ensure that my composition is always good. This really minimizes post production in Photoshop or Lightroom.

Just like any other photographer, my major struggle was difficulty in developing clientele. Luckily, I got tremendous support from my friends (specially my friends from MBA school days) and they were in fact my first clients. Also, my Instagram account has really taken off and I have almost 29K followers. This allows me to reach out to a huge audience and has been instrumental in jump starting my photography career.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Raj Bose Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company specializes in landscape, cityscape and wedding photography. Primarily, I am a natural light photographer and my primary goal is to capture the emotion of the moment including the precious intimate moments between individuals.

I have developed my own style of photography which has been quite popular. Luckily, our clients understand and like my style of photography and allows me to express myself freely through my camera. I typically don’t compromise with quality and my purpose is to provide best customer satisfaction.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My photography workshops have really taken off and I received lot of interest, My goal is to conduct more workshops whereby I can share my experience and teach photography which provides lot of satisfaction.

Also, I am in the working with coffee shops/clubs and other avenues to display my landscape/street life work. Also, I have few wedding/portraiture assignments lined up for this year.
